INSTALLATIONCLEARANCESThe clearances listed below are Minimum distances unless otherwise stated:INSTALLATIONA major cause of chimney related fires is failure to maintain required clearances (air space) to combustible materials. It is of the greatestimportance that this fireplace and vent system be installed only in accordance with these instructions.Caution RequirementsThe top, back and sides of the fi replace are defi ned bystandoffs. The metal ends of the standoff may NOT berecessed into combustible construction.WARNINGFire hazard is an extreme riskif these clearances (air space) to combustible materials are notadhered to. INSTALLATIONFRAMING & FINISHINGINSTALLATION1) Determine the total thickness of facing material (e.g. drywall, woodplus ceramic tiles) to allow the fi nished surface to be fl ush with thefront of the unit. Total facing thickness can vary from 1/2" (13mm) to1-1/4" (32mm) thick.NOTE: Facing material may not protrude beyond unit, otherwise theoptional accesories will not be able to be mounted to the unit.Install Side Nailing Strips, and Top FacingSupport before unit is slipped into position.See "Unit Assembly Prior to Installation"Section4) Combustible material may be brought up to the top and sides ofthe unit and be covered with wood, drywall, ceramic tiles, bricks, rock or other suitable combustible fi nishing materials.Note: The unit does not have to be completely enclosed in a chase. The clearance on top of the unit is 0" to the standoffs socombustible building materials can be laid directly on topof the standoffs. You must maintain clearance from the ventto combustible materials for flex or for Rigid Vent (Referto "Clearances" Section).5) Use steel studs for framing where the 1-1/2" (38mm) clearancefrom the vent to combustible material cannot be maintained.2) Frame in the enclosure for the unit with framing material. The top of the glass door frame must not be closer than 35" (889mm)to the ceiling.Note: When constructing the framed opening, please ensure thereis access to install the gas lines when the unit is installed.3) For exterior walls, insulate the enclosure to the same degree as therest of the house, apply vapour barrier and drywall, as per local installationcodes. (Do not insulate the fireplace itself.)WARNING: Failure to insulate and add vapor barriers to the insideof the exterior wall will result in operational and performanceproblems including, but not limited to: excessive condensationon glass doors, poor flame package, carbon, blue flames etc. These are not product related issues.10Regency P33 Sunrise TM Gas Fireplace

The inner liner vents products of combustion to the outside while theouter liner draws outside combustion air into the combustion chamber thereby eliminating the need to use heated room air for combustion and losingwarm room air up the chimney. There are 5 vent systems approved for use with the P33S: the Regency ® Direct Vent Flex System for Horizontal Terminations only and the SimpsonDura-Vent, Selkirk Direct-Temp, Amerivent Direct Vent and Security Secure Vent Systems for Horizontal and Vertical Terminations (see following"Venting" Sections for more details).Note: These flue pipes must not be connected to any other appliance. The gas appliance and vent system must be vented directly to the outside of the building, and never be attached to a chimney serving a separatesolid fuel or gas burning appliance. Each direct vent gas appliance must use it's own separate vent system. Common vent systems are prohibited.(See "Rigid Pipe Venting System" for more details and exceptions).NOTE: Ensure compliance with the outside vent terminal location before cutting hole as both dimensions must be met.12Regency P33 Sunrise TM Gas Fireplace

INSTALLATIONUNIT INSTALLATION WITH HORIZONTAL TERMINATIONINSTALLATIONInstall the vent system according to themanufacturer's instructions included with thecomponents.1) Set the unit in its desired location. Checkto determine if wall studs or roof raftersare in the way when the venting system isattached. If this is the case, you may wantto adjust the location of the unit. Rough inthe gas preferably on the right side of theunit and the electrical (junction block is onthe left side) on the left.2) Direct Vent pipe and fi ttings are designedwith special twist-lock connections toconnect the venting system to the appliancefl ue outlet. A twist-lock appliance adaptoris an available option that must be used inconjunction with the Simpson Dura-VentDirect Vent GS system.3) Put a bead of silicone inside the outer sectionof the adapter and a bead of Fireplace Mateon the inner collar. Slip the adapter over theexisting inner and outer flue collar and fastento the outer collar only with the 3 suppliedscrews (drilling pilot holes will make thiseasier). Level the fi replace and fasten it tothe framing using nails or screws throughthe nailing strips.4) Assemble the desired combination of pipeand elbows to the appliance adaptor andtwist-lock for a solid connection.Note:a) Twist-lock procedure: Four indentations, located on the female ends of pipes andfi ttings, are designed to slide straightonto the male ends of adjacent pipesand fi ttings, by orienting the four pipeindentations so they match and slidein to the four entry slots on the maleends, Dia. 1. Push the pipe sectionscompletely together, then twist-lockone section clockwise approximatelyone-quarter turn, until the two sectionsare fully locked. The female locking lugswill not be visible from the outside, onthe Black Pipe or fi ttings. They may belocated by examining the inside of thefemale ends.b) Horizontal runs of vent must besupported every three feet. Wall strapsare available for this purpose.5) Mark the wall for a 254mm x 254mm squarehole. The center of the square hole shouldline up with the centerline of the horizontalpipe. Cut and frame the 254mm squarehole in the exterior wall where the vent willbe terminated. If the wall being penetratedis constructed of non-combustible material,i.e. masonry block or concrete, a 7"(178mm)diameter (7-1/2"(191mm) dia. for fl ex) holeis acceptable.Note:a) The horizontal run of vent must be level,or have a 6mm rise for every 305mmof run towards the termination. Neverallow the vent to run downward. Thiscould cause high temperatures and maypresent the possibility of a fi re.b) The location of the horizontal venttermination on an exterior wall must meetall local and national building codes, and must not be blocked or obstructed.See "Exterior Vent Terminal Locations"Section.6) The arrow on the vent cap shouldbe pointing up. Insure that the 38mmclearances to combustible materials aremaintained (Dia. 3). Install the terminationcap. AstroCap TM or all other approvedHorizontal Termination Caps may be used.Diagram 2*As specifi ed in CGA B149 Installation CodeAS5601/AG601. Local codes or regulations mayrequire different clearances. The four wood screws provided should be replacedwith appropriate fasteners for stucco, brick, concrete, or other types of sidings.Diagram 1NOTE: For best results and optimumperformance with each approved ventingsystem, it is highly recommended to apply“Mill-Pac” sealant (supplied) to every innerpipe connection. Failure to do so mayresult in drafting or performance issues notcovered under warranty. Silicone (red RTV)is optional.Note: If installing termination on a sidingcovered wall, a vinyl siding standoff orfurring strips must be used to ensurethat the termination is not recessedinto the siding.7) Before connecting the horizontal run of ventpipe to the vent termination, slide the WallThimble (Part # 620-926) over the vent pipe.24Regency P33 Sunrise TM Gas Fireplace

INSTALLATION8) Slide the appliance and vent assemblytowards the wall carefully inserting thevent pipe into the vent cap assembly. It isimportant that the vent pipe extends into thevent cap suffi cient distance so as to result ina minimum pipe overlap of 1-1/4" (32mm).Secure the connection between the vent pipeand the vent cap 3 sheet metal screws.9) Install wall thimble in the center of the 10"(254mm) square and attach with woodscrews (Diagram 4).Diagram 4UNIT INSTALLATIONWITH VERTICALTERMINATION4) Assemble the desired lengths of pipe andelbows. Ensure that all pipes and elbowconnections are in the fully twist-lockedposition and sealed.NOTE: For best results and optimumperformance with each approved ventingsystem, it is highly recommended to apply“Mill-Pac” sealant (supplied) to every innerpipe connection. Failure to do so mayresult in drafting or performance issues notcovered under warranty. Silicone (red RTV)is optional.5) Cut a hole in the roof centered on the smalldrilled hole placed in the roof in Step 2. Thehole should be of suffi cient size to meetthe minimum requirements for clearanceto combustibles of 1-1/2" (38mm). Slip theflashing under the shingles (shingles shouldoverlap half the fl ashing) as per Diagram3.Diagram 4Roof PitchMinimum Vent HeightFeet Metersfl at to 7/12 2 0.61over 7/12 to 8/12 2 0.61over 8/12 to 9/12 2 0.61over 9/12 to 10/12 2.5 0.76over 10/12 to 11/12 3.25 0.99over 11/12 to 12/12 4 1.22over 12/12 to 14/12 5 1.52over 14/12 to 16/12 6 1.83over 16/12 to 18/12 7 2.13over 18/12 to 20/12 7.5 2.29over 20/12 to 21/12 8 2.448) Install the vertical termination cap by twistlockingit.INSTALLATION1) Maintain the 1-1/2" (38mm)clearances (airspaces) to combustibles when passingthrough ceilings, walls, roofs, enclosures, attic rafter, or other nearby combustiblesurfaces. Do not pack air spaces withinsulation. Check "Venting"Sections for the maximumvertical rise of the venting systemand the maximum horizontaloffset limitations.2) Set the gas appliance in itsdesired location. Drop a plumbbob down from the ceiling to theposition of the appliance flue exit, and mark the location wherethe vent will penetrate theceiling. Drill a small holeat this point. Next, drop aplumb bob from the roof tothe hole previously drilledin the ceiling, and mark the Diagram 1spot where the vent will penetrate the roof.3) A Firestop spacer must be installed in thefl oor or ceiling of every level. To install theFirestop spacer in a fl at ceiling or wall, cut a 10 inch square hole. Frame the holeas shown in Diagram 2 and install thefi restop.Diagram 3: The upper half of the flashing isinstalled under the roofi ng material and notnailed down until the chimney is installed. This allows for small adjustments.6) Continue to assemble pipe lengths.Note: If an offset is necessary in the attic toavoid obstructions, it is important tosupport the vent pipe every 3 feet, toavoid excessive stress on the elbows, and possible separation. Wall strapsare available for this purpose.Galvanized pipe is desirable above the rooflinedue to its higher corrosion resistance. Continueto add pipe sections through the flashing untilthe height of the vent cap meets the minimumheight requirements specified in Dia. 4 or localcodes. Note that for steep roof pitches, thevertical height must be increased. A poordraft, or down drafting can result from highwind conditions near big trees or adjoiningroof lines, in these cases, increasing thevent height may solve the problem.Note: Any closets or storage spaces, whichthe vent passes through must beenclosed.GAS LINEINSTALLATIONThe gas line is brought through the right side ofthe appliance. The gas valve is situated on theright hand side of the unit and the gas inlet ison the right hand side of the valve. The gas line connection may be made ofrigid pipe, copper pipe or an approved fl exconnector. (If you are using rigid pipe, ensurethat the valve can be removed for servicing.)Since some municipalities have additional localcodes it is always best to consult with your localauthorities and the CAN/CGA B149 installationcode and AS5601 Australia & New ZealandBuilding Codes. When using copper or fl ex connectors use onlyapproved fi ttings. Always provide a union sothat gas lines can be easily disconnected forservicing. Flare nuts for copper lines and fl exconnectors are usually considered to meet thisrequirement.Important: Always check for gas leaks with asoap and water solution or gas leak detector.Do not use open flame for leak testing.Diagram 27) Ensure vent is vertical and secure the baseof the fl ashing to the roof with roofi ng rails, slide storm collar over the pipe section andseal with a mastic.Regency P33 Sunrise TM Gas Fireplace 25

INSTALLATIONINSTALLATIONPILOT ADJUSTMENTPeriodically check the pilot flames. Correctflame pattern has three strong blue flames:1 flowing around the thermopile, 1 aroundthe thermocouple and 1 flowing across theburner (it does not have to be touching theburner).Note: If you have an incorrect flamepattern, contact your FPI dealer for furtherinstructions.Incorrect flame pattern will have small, probably yellow flames, not coming intoproper contact with the rear burner orthermopile or thermocouple.HIGH ELEVATIONThis unit is approved in Canada, Australia andNew Zealand for altitude to 4500 ft. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSOPERATIONOPERATINGINSTRUCTIONS1) Read and understand these instructionsbefore operating this appliance.2) Check to see that all wiring is correct andenclosed to prevent possible shock.3) Check to ensure there are no gas leaks.4) Make sure the glass in the glass door frameis properly positioned. Never operate theappliance with the glass removed.5) Verify that the venting and cap areunobstructed.6) The unit should never be turned off, and onagain without a minimum of a 60 secondwait.FIRST FIREThe FIRST FIRE in your heater is part of the paintcuring process. To ensure the paint is properlycured, it is recommended you burn your fireplacefor at least four (4) hours the fi rst time. When fi rst operated, the unit will release anodour caused by the curing of the paint and theburning off of any oils remaining from manufacturing.Smoke detectors in the house may go offat this time. Open a few windows to ventilatethe room for a couple of hours. The glass mayrequire cleaning.NOTE: When the glass is cold and the applianceis lit, it may cause condensation and fogthe glass. This condensation is normaland will disappear in a few minutes asthe glass heats up.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEAN THEGLASS WHILE IT IS STILL HOT!LIGHTINGPROCEDUREIMPORTANTTo ignite or reignite the pilot, youmust first remove the glass door.NOTE: The Gas ON/OFF knob cannot beturned from "ON", "PILOT" or "OFF" unlessit is partially depressed.1) Ensure the wall mounted switch or remoteis in the "OFF" position.2) Turn the gas control knob so the indicatorpoints to the "OFF" position and wait 5 minutesfor any gas in the combustion chamberto escape.3) Turn the gas control knob counterclockwiseso the indicator points to the "PILOT" position.Depress the gas control knob fully. Depressthe igniter button until the pilot lights. Afterapproximately one minute, release the gascontrol knob. The pilot fl ame should continueto burn.Only when the pilot holds, without pressurebeing applied to the gas control knob, re-installthe glass door to the unit. The unit must notbe operated without the glass door in place. If the pilot does not remain lit, repeat operationallowing a longer period before releasinggas control knob.4) When the pilot stays lit, turn the gas controlknob to the "ON" position.5) Use the wall switch or remote control to turnthe unit ON.NOTE: When using the remote control refer tothe remote manual.NOTE: If there is no spark present at the pilotwhen depressed, the AA battery maybe weak. Refer to "DC Spark BatteryReplacement" section.NORMAL OPERATINGSOUNDS OFGAS APPLIANCESIt is possible that you will hear some sounds fromyour gas appliance. This is perfectly normal due tothe fact that there are various gauges and typesof steel used within your appliance. Listed beloware some examples. All are normal operatingsounds and should not be considered as defectsin your appliance.Burner Tray:The burner tray is positioned directly under theburner and is made of a different gauge materialfrom the rest of the fi rebox and body. Therefore, the varying thicknesses of steel will expand andcontract at slightly different rates which can cause"ticking" and "cracking" sounds. You should alsobe aware that as there are temperature changeswithin the unit these sounds will likely re-occur.Again, this is normal for steel fi reboxes.Pilot Flame:While the pilot fl ame is on it can make a veryslight "whisper" sound.Gas Control Valve:As the gas control valve turns ON and OFF, adull clicking sound may be audible, this is normaloperation of a gas regulator or valve.Unit Body/Firebox:Different types and thicknesses of steel willexpand and contract at different rates resultingin some "cracking" and "ticking" sounds will beheard throughout the cycling process.DO NOT BURN THE UNIT WITHOUT THEGLASS DOOR IN PLACE.During the first few fires, a white filmmay develop on the glass front as part ofthe curing process. The glass should becleaned after the unit has cooled downor the film will bake on and become verydifficult to remove. Use a non-abrasivecleaner and DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLEANTHE GLASS WHILE IT IS HOT.SHUTDOWNPROCEDURE1) Turn the wall mounted switch or remote tothe "OFF" position.2) Press "OFF" on the remote control.3) Turn the gas control knob to the "OFF" positionto turn off the pilot.40Regency P33 Sunrise TM Gas Fireplace

Thermopile connected to TP/TH and TP on valve. Ensure thermocouple is properlyseated on valve.Use a multi-meter, set to MV, to test the thermocouple (Gas:10). If the reading is consistently low replace the thermocouple. If theMV reading is greater than 8 MV proceed to the Safety Magnet Test (EPU) (Gas:13).The thermopile may notbe generating enoughmillivolt electrical flow.Use a multi-meter, set to MV or VOLTS DC, to test the thermopile (Gas:10). If the reading is consistently low replace the thermopile. If the MV reading is greater than 325 MV proceed to the Safety Magnet Test (EPU) (Gas:13).Line voltage (100+V) hasbeen connected to thevalve, on terminals TP/TH and TH.Connecting line voltage to the valve has caused permanent damage. Since there is no repair possible, replace the Pilot assemblyand the control valve.44Regency P33 Sunrise TM Gas Fireplace

MAINTENANCESymptom Possible Cause SolutionControl knob is not in the“ON” position.Turn the control knob to the “ON’ position.A tripped safety spillswitch (automatic inInserts, and manual inFreestanding Stoves) willresult in a failure to ignite.Allow the automatic switch (Inserts) to cool or reset the manual switch (Freestanding Stove). Then try again to ignite the fi replace. When the switch is in the closed position test the Ohms reading, a reading of 0-0.3 ohms indicates a good switch (Gas:18).Replace safety switch as necessary.Faulty or disconnectedwiring, incorrect guageor length of wiring, faultythermostat or wall switch, will result in a failure toignite.Use a jumper wire across terminals TP/TH & TH to test the valve operation. If valve ignites, examine and reconnect/replace asnecessary any required or faulty components. The wall switch should have an Ohms reading of 0-0.3 Ohms. The complete circuit should have a resistance of 35mv or less. For correct wire guage refer to the chart provided in the manual. With pilot litmain burnerwill not ignite.Insuffi cient millivolt powerfrom the thermopile. An insuffi cient gaspressure at the valve willresult in a failure to ignite. With the switch “ON” check the thermopile for a min. 110MV reading. Tighten connections and retest, if no improvement it isnecessary to replace the thermopile.Using a manometer check the gas pressure at the manifold. (Gas:14) Check the rating plate for correct settings for the fi replace.Any blockage and/orblockage in the burnerand/or burner orifi ce.Examine burner and burner orifi ce, clean or replace as necessary.A faulty operating headon the valve will result ina failure to ignite.Disconnect thermopile and wall switch/thermostat, then test the Ohms reading on the valve head. (Gas:18) Replace valve ifnecessary. An incorrectly setanticipator style wallthermostat will cause afailure to igniteReplace an anticipator style thermostat with a non-anticipator style millivolt thermostat.Remote controltransmitter has turned offthe fi replace.Check that the batteries in the remote are not expired or drained. If necessary replace with new batteries. Also check that thesettings on the remote are set correctly for the desired operation.High resistance in thewall switch can causeintermittent failures.Test the Ohms reading of the ON/OFF switch a reading of 0-0.3 ohms indicates a good switch. If necessary replace the switch(Gas:18).Main burnershuts down, pilot lightdoes not goout.High resistance inthe Spill Switch/HighLimit Switch can causeintermittent failures.High resistance in theoperating head onthe valve can causeintermittent failures.Thermopile does notgenerate enough millivoltpower under load.Test the ohms reading of switch a reading of 0-0.3 ohms indicates a good switch. If necessary replace the switch (Gas:18).Disconnect thermopile and wall switch/thermostat, then test the Ohms reading on the valve head. (Gas:18) Replace valve asnecessary. If the thermopile millivolt reading drops below 110MV, under load, replace thermopile (Gas:10).MAINTENANCESpill switch has beenactivated.Allow the automatic switch (Inserts) to cool or reset the manual switch (Freestanding Stove). When the switch is in the closedposition test the Ohms reading, a reading of 0-0.3 ohms indicates a good switch (Gas:18). Replace safety switch as necessary. Donot bypass this switch. Check for blockage in the fl ue pipe.Remote controltransmitter has turned offthe fi replace.Check that the batteries in the remote are not expired or drained. If necessary replace with new batteries. Also check that thesettings on the remote are set correctly for the desired operationPrimary air shutter isblocked or the aeration isset incorrectly.Examine and clear any blockage in the air shutter (Gas:6). Refer to the installation manual to set burner aeration (Gas:6).Carbon / Sootappearing onthe glass orlogs.Infrequent servicing ofthe appliance.Incorrect positioning oflogs and ember materialwill result in carboning.Schedule and perform regular maintenance for the appliance.Refer to the installation manual and correctly place the logs and ember material. An oversized orifi ce and/or high gas pressurewill cause overfi ring andcarboning.Verify the orifi ce size and replace if necessary.
