To be able to carry out the role effectively SENCOs must have a goodunderstanding of their role and responsibilities and the legislation which underpin these.Task links to learning outcome 1, assessment criteria 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5.You have applied for the role of Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). You havebeen invited for an interview. In preparation, research the role and produce a folder ofinformation which will show that you can:• outline the legislative context for the role of the Special Education Needs Coordinatorwith reference to codes of practice as relevant to the UK home nation• explain the responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator• explain the importance of early recognition and intervention• explain policies and/or procedures of the setting in respect of special educationalneeds• explain the importance of liaison and partnerships with carers, other agencies, andprofessionals.© CACHE 2013 Version 5.0 79
