Corner Corner of of Peace Peace Often, in our society, we hear comments about inequities and unfairness. These comments are often made with passion, and frequently with sadness. Quite likely, it may be you or I who make these comments ourselves. We may bemoan the fact that a person who put out every effort to better their family’s life, but is still battling on, is not accorded the same level of assistance that is given to some-one who is living an idle, dissolute lifestyle. However true this may be, we forget that, here in Australia, there is always at least some level of assistance. In many countries this is not the case. This being so, I personally find it helps to look for the positive side of the picture as well as the negative. Viewing the negatives alone tend to tear down rather than build up. Inequities have been a part of society since history began. Mankind, has the tendency to selfishness, usually resulting in unfairness. The prophet Habakkuk, in fact, was bothered by this very thing – just as we are today. He, however, took his problem to God. Perhaps we should too – voicing our thoughts and feeling to God is really the best thing we can do. We may be surprised, (and frequently comforted too), at the answers we receive. At times these answers come from most unexpected places. Habakkuk was very privileged to receive his answers directly from God and he wrote them down for us to read in the book that bears his name in the Bible. We can be reassured that God notices and has his own perfect timetable for action – but it is not our time-table. We have short vision and God sees the long term we cannot yet perceive. It is true that God sometimes has a ‘hands off’ policy which is, in fact, very much desired by many in our society. We really need to remind ourselves that this is because God does respect and allow free will. God will make all things new in His own perfect timing – we can be assured of that. God bless and keep you all. Moira Staff Profile Mrs Michelle Burns Job Title: Year 4/5 Teacher Michelle Schiller joined the staff at WLPS in 1999, teaching the 5/6 class. She married Craig Burns in 2000 and subsequently became Mrs Burns. During her time at WLPS, she has taught years 4/5, 5/6, 6/7 as well as a stint in the R/1 class. Mrs Burns went on maternity leave in 2004, during which time she had 2 children— Tiana and Amity. Mrs Burns did not leave WLPS completely during her time of leave, as she to came in regularly to teach in a relief capacity until her return to teaching as a 0.4 FTE 6/7 teacher in 2010. This year she has returned to full time employment, taking on the role of Year 4/5 teacher. Mrs Burns has an active interest in art, which flows over into her teaching (much to the delight on some of her students). She also enjoys singing, and can be heard with the choir at the Waikerie Lutheran Church some Sundays. Born: 11th March, 1977 in Eudunda. Went to: St John’s Lutheran Primary school, Eudunda then Faith Lutheran College, Tanunda. Qualifications: Bachelor of Education and Diploma of Theology. Favourite Food: Lasagne, chocolate and cheese. Favourite Music: Anything that doesn’t include the Wiggles or other children’s groups. 80’s music. Something I want to do is: Build my new house and more gardening. My hobbies are: Gardening, craft and spending time with my friends. My ideal holiday destination is: Within Australia. Darwin—love visiting, but couldn’t live there - or an isolated island for a month with a few friends. Indonesian News Week 6 Term 1 Students have been working quite well during Indonesian lessons. Between the classes we have been looking at families, body part names and also numbers. In order to assist students with learning new words I have included some common words below for students to practise at home. As a way of celebrating the demonstration of these attitudes by students, staff have elected these students this week. 6/7 Class Independence - Sarah Weir. Sarah has been working very well, independently completing her summative assessment task on the Human Body. ☺ Tolerance - Caitlin Curtis. Caitlin is tolerant towards her peers and has been demonstrating good leadership skills and is being inclusive of all. ☺ 4/5 Class Enthusiasm - Bradley Ebert. Bradley has shown a lot of enthusiasm regarding his achievements and success in mental maths this week. Well done Bradley! ☺ Respect - Siobhan Butson. Siobhan always shows respect to others in the class by using her manners and working appropriately, allowing others the opportunity to learn also. Fantastic Siobhan! ☺ 2/3 Class Commitment - Jed Thiel. Jed works hard to complete tasks and shows a lot of commitment towards his work. ☺ Empathy - Taylah Kuchel. Taylah is a caring student who treats her peers with care and shows empathy. ☺ R/1 Class Empathy - Demi Hart. Demi has demonstrated empathy towards her peers by understanding their feelings and showing a caring nature. Well done Demi. ☺ Curiosity - Grady Mason. Grady has shown curiosity in class by asking intriguing questions and seeking out answers. Great to see Grady. ☺ Reception Class Creativity - Tyler Duffield. Tyler worked hard to create a picture for the class to “read”. He included colour and detail. Well done! ☺ Empathy - Mark Carter. Mark has demonstrated understanding of others when he “put himself in someone else’s situation”. This happened in group time. ☺ Prayers � Thank God for providing us with some rain to water our gardens and fill our rain water tanks. � Ask God to be with those members of our community who are harvesting and pray that He will keep them safe during this busy time.
