When I needed them, theChase Avenue Family Health Center staff was there to help.” - Rick SatrianoTwo years ago, Rick Satriano looked forward to developing his career at a new job.Unexpectedly, Rick suffered a stroke.Just 5 days shy of completing his orientation period and receiving health benefits,Rick found himself in the hospital for a six day stay. During his stay, Rick’semployer let him go. Unemployed, uninsured and with hospital bills adding up,Rick faced the daunting task of dealing with both his health and financial status. At home after the stroke, Rick had new health obstacles to overcome; he lost hisperipheral eye sight, had trouble with the right side of his body, and without carewas at risk for another stroke. With the hospital 20 miles away, gas prices throughthe roof, and the cost of appointments out of reach without insurance, Rick neededa local economic solution for his follow up care. He remembered seeing ChaseAvenue Family Health Center, only 4 miles away.At Chase Avenue Family Health Center, Dr. Tara Zandvliet was ready to help. Determined as ever, Rick kept hisfollow up appointments and is on the path to recovery. After two years of an intense plan, and a new friendship withDr. Zandvliet, Rick is feeling better. He has a new job and his health benefits began on April 27.“I’m not complaining,” says Rick. “I’m thankful. If it weren’t for the clinic I wouldn’t be able to pay my rent. Thehospital would have cost three times what I pay here and I wouldn’t have gone.”We’re glad you came to us, Rick!3
