Table 426 presents data on the mainreasons for not using family planning. Forty-one percent of these women said that they did not intend to usebecause ofinfecundity (either "difficult to get pregnant" or "menopausal"). A desire to have children appearsto be the next most common reason for nonuse (13 percent of nonusers), followed by religious reasons (11percent). Other commonly mentioned reasons are: husb<strong>and</strong>'s opposition to family planning (8 percent), sideeffects <strong>and</strong> other health concems (6 percent), infrequent sexual relations (6 percent), <strong>and</strong> a fatalistic attitude(4 percent). Only 3 percent cited lack of knowledge about methods as the main mason for their nonuse.There am significant differences in reasons for nonuse by age of woman. The major reasons thatyounger women (under age 30) give for not intending to use contraception in the future are a desire to havechildren (28 percen0, religion (15 percent), <strong>and</strong> opposition of their husb<strong>and</strong>s to family planning (14 percen0.Those age 30 <strong>and</strong> over are more likely to cite reasons such as being menopausal or infecund (56 percent).64
