It is evident that the proportion of women under age 25 who have nevermarried has been increasing. Since 1975, the proportion of women age 15-19 who have not yet married hasincreased from 30 to 51 percent (Figure 5.1). The proportion never married at ages 20-24 also rose between1975 <strong>and</strong> 1989, but has not increased significantly since then. The proportion never married above age 25is so small that changes over time are difficult to detect.72
