Nutrient Film Technique (NFT)B-E De Lier provides NFT hydroponic irrigation solutionmainly for growing vegetables and salads. NFTsystem is a soilless cultivation technique in whichroots do not need any support medium to grow. Theroots grow inside a sloping irrigation channel, whichis fed by a continuous or intermittent flow of nutrientrich water. The nutrient solution is fed throughan inlet pipe at one end of the channel and allowedto flow over the roots of the plants. The nutrientsolution is then drained back into the nutrient reservoirwhere it will be enriched again and pumpedback into the channel system to repeat the irrigationprocess. Depending on the plant requirement thesystem can be designed nutrient feed cycle can beregulated to be either continuous or intermittentflow with help of a timer and simple computer controlsystem.B-E De Lier’s NFT systems are popular among thesalad vegetable growers. One of the reasons being, the salad plants harvested from this system are freefrom soil and dirt and the root system can be easilypulled out of the channel, trimmed before packing. This not only reduces labor but also enables them tosupply high quality product conforming to foodsafety norms.Advantages:No possibilities of excess wetness in greenhouseNo bacterial growth or damage to fruits andflowersQuick and uniform cooling and humidificationHumidification up to 90% is easily achievedTemperature drop of 10 o C to 15 o C is easilyachievedVery ideal for dry and dusty conditionsPump UnitControl Unit BoxTankComponents:Pump UnitComputerFiltersWater Level ControllerOptional Components:UV Sterilizer unitWater tankReverse Osmosis12pH Meter
