CAMBRIDGE BURSARY SCHEME FOR UK STUDENTSThe University is committed to the principle that no UK student should bedeterred from studying at Cambridge because of financial difficulties. Sowe offer a generous bursary scheme for our students.SOME BURSARY FACTS• In 2011-12 we believe that over 3,000 UK students will be eligiblefor a Cambridge Bursary. That is more than 1 in 4 students• Every undergraduate who qualifies for a means-tested UKgovernment maintenance grant and who pays a CambridgeUniversity Tuition Fee will qualify for a bursary.• The maximum bursary this year will be £3,400 and the vastmajority of those students who receive the maximum governmentmaintenance grant will receive this amount.• The amount of bursary is related to the government maintenancegrant that you will receive - there is a sliding scale of support.• The number and amount of bursaries awarded are determined bystudent need. There is no ceiling on the number of awards, and youdo not deprive others of a bursary by applying. The one thing you need to do tobe considered for a bursary is toapply. If you do not apply, youwill not receive anything. Forhow to apply, see overleaf. For more details please see the Cambridge Bursary scheme website at www.cam.ac.uk/cambridgebursary

Application is in two steps, whether you are applying for the first time or haveapplied in a previous year:Go to www.cam.ac.uk/cambridgebursary and fill in the simple electronic applicationform. This form will be available from the end of September 2011, but you will need yourCRSid (i.e. the first part of your University email address) and you will also need yourUniversity email password so that you can collect the confirmation email we will send you.Don't apply until you have this password. You will also need to state the source and amountof any other income, so make sure you have this information to hand.Important note: If you think you have made a mistake in your online application, do not start again.Just tell your College, and they will make sure it is amended.1. You will receive a confirmation email containing important information. Attached to itwill be a record of the answers you gave on the form, with a declaration for youto sign. Print this out and sign the declaration. If you do not have a printer, yourCollege Finance Office will also have a copy of the confirmation email, and they should beable to print it for you. Then find your documentation from Student Finance, informingyou of the level of your government financial support. This may take the form of aFinancial Notification or a Student Finance Breakdown*. Take both theconfirmation and the financial document to the PGCE Administrator, Tutorial &Admissions Office, Homerton College, Hills Road, Cambridge, CB2 8PH. This is a fixeddeadline; after this date the application form will be removed. Requests for late applicationsmay be accepted, but payment is likely to be delayed until the following March. If your government grant details are not yet finalised, do not worry:• If your Financial Notification is marked ‘provisional’ rather than final, or if your StudentFinance Breakdown shows only a maintenance loan but there is a possibility that youwill get a government maintenance grant at a later date, you should still apply.• If you have not received a grant, but are hoping for a financial reassessment, do notwait for the result before applying: apply now!In both cases, your application will be kept on file until you forward your final FinancialNotification, or a Means-Tested Student Finance Breakdown.A few notes:- there are different Student Finance bodies, for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and the financial documentation for each varies. *Examples of the main types can be found onthe website. If in doubt about what is required, ask your College.- some students from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who do not qualify for a maintenancegrant will still qualify for a Cambridge Bursary, depending on the amount of their means-testedloan- PGCE students are also eligible for Cambridge bursaries if they receive a meanstestedgrant.- some mature students resident in Cambridge all year round are eligible for a higher rate ofbursary. For more details please see the Cambridge Bursary scheme website at www.cam.ac.uk/cambridgebursary
