VISITATION, ELMHURST, IL JUNE 29, 2008Dear Friends in Visitation,What a joy and a blessing it is to begin my priestly ministry with you. Since we will be walking the path toward holinessand Heaven together, I thought that it would be helpful for you to know a little bit about me.My twin sister Genevieve and I were born on August 4, 1982, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Dan and Christine Pratscher. Wehave two younger brothers, Josh and Jake (in case you were wondering, my sister is five minutes older than me). My dadserved in the Marines for twenty years, and so I was born in Hawaii, where we lived until I was two-and-a-half. We thenmoved to Florida, Maryland, and ultimately Romeoville, Illinois in 1990 in order to be near family. Both of my parents arefrom the Darien/Downers Grove area. We became parishioners at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Romeovilleand it was there that I went to grade school. I graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy in 2000 and then went to St. JohnVianney College Seminary at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota, where I graduated in 2004. I graduatedfrom the University of St. Mary of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary in May, 2008 and was ordained a priest for the Dioceseof Joliet on Saturday, June 7, 2008, in the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet, Illinois.I owe my vocation first of all to my family (after the Holy Spirit, of course.). It is there where I have learned to encounterChrist in the Catholic traditions and it is there where I have learned to live and love. I have been blessed to attend Catholicschools and develop many lasting relationships in these schools and in my parish. I also gained a familiarity with and lovefor the Eucharist as an altar server. I was very active in youth ministry in high school, and it was during that time that I felta nudge to enter the seminary. It was also during that time that I grew in my desire to know the Bible, pray and serve. I leda weekly Bible study, led prayers for the youth ministry, earned the rank of Eagle Scout and went on mission trips to Boliviaand Appalachia. Despite many doubts and fears, I entered the college seminary and it has been in my time at the seminarythat my love for Christ in the Church and the Blessed Sacrament, in his people and in the Tradition, has flourished.I am excited to serve you here at Visitation. Know of my constant prayers for you and please remember me in your prayersas well.In Christ,Fr. VISITATION, ELMHURST, IL JUNE 29, 2008A Bicycle Built for TwoAt first I saw God as my observer, My judge keeping track of the things I did wrong, so as to know whether I merited Heaven or hellwhen I die. He was out there sort of like a president. I recognized His picture when I saw it, but I didn’t really know Him.But later on when I met Christ, it seemed as though life were rather like a bike ride but it was a tandem bike and I noticed thatChrist was in the back helping me pedal.I don’t know just when it was that He suggested we change places, but life hasn’t been the same since. When I had control, I knewthe way. It was rather boring, but predictable. It was the shortest distance between two points. But when He took the lead, He knewdelightful long cuts, up mountains and through rocky places at break neck speeds. It was all I could do to hang on! Even though itlooked like madness, He said, “Pedal.”I worried and was anxious and asked, “Where are you taking me?” He laughed and didn’t answer, and I started to learn to trust. Iforgot my boring life and entered into the adventure. And when I’d say, “I’m scared,” He’d lean back and touch my hand.He took me to people with gifts that I needed; gifts of healing, acceptance and joy. They gave me gifts to take on my journey, myLord’s and mine. And we were off again. He said, “Give the gifts away, they’re extra baggage, too much weight.” So I did…to the people we met.And I found that in giving, I received and still our burden was light. I did not trust Him at first, in control of my life. I thought He’dwreck it; but He knows bike secrets, knows how to make it bend to take sharp corners, knows how to jump to clear high rocks, knowshow to fly to shorten scary passages. And I am learning to shut up and pedal in the strangest places, and I’m beginning to enjoy the view and the cool breeze on myface with my delightful, constant companion, Jesus Christ. And when I’m sure I just can’t do any more, He smiles and says …“Pedal!” (Author unknown) Take a ride with Jesus over to the Adoration Chapel. You’ll love the trip. The Chapel is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.Thank you to the new Registered Adorers who responded last week. We could use additional help during the following times. Fri.10:00–11:00 A.M., Fri. 7:00–8:00 P.M., Sat. 10:00–11:00 A.M., Sat. 3:00–4:00 P.M. and Sat. 4:00–5:00 P.M. Please call Owen or Gail at630-573-0033 to register.Eucharistic Adoration“In the Eucharist, the Son of Godcomes to meet us and desires to becomeone with us; Eucharistic adoration issimply the natural consequence of theEucharistic celebration, which is itselfthe Church's supreme act of adoration.Receiving the Eucharist meansadoring Him whom we receive. Only inthis way do we become one with Him,and are given, as it were, a foretaste of the beauty of the heavenlyliturgy. The act of adoration outside Mass prolongs andintensifies all that takes place during the liturgical celebrationitself.” Pope Benedict XVI—Sacramentum Caritatis 66Prolong and intensify all that takes place during the liturgicalcelebration by joining your friends in Christ for a very spirituallyuplifting Holy Hour. The special guest speaker of the eveningwill be Jesus Christ, speaking in the silence of your heart. Adorethe Lord in the Eucharist, Benediction, prayer, and song. Please note that during the summer months, the Holy Hours willbe starting at 8:00 P.M. The Lord has marked this special date downon His calendar. Have you marked this date down on your calendar?Where: Visitation ChurchWhen: Saturday, July 12, 20088:00–9:00 P.M.Our Lord is awaiting your visit!Visitation Men’s MinistryWhen Christ said, “I came that they may have life and haveit in abundance” (Jn 10:10), he was talking about us—ourlives. Are we experiencing this abundance in our careers? Inour relationships? Our marriages? With our children? In ourcommunity? Where do we go to find the abundance thatChrist offers? As men of Christ, we find our answers when we discoverwhat it means to walk, to live and to love as the kind of manthat the Lord intends us to be. And so, “as iron sharpens iron,so man sharpens his fellow man” (Prov 27:17), we canencourage one another to discover our unique God-givenvocations. We can grow together in God’s word. We can buildone another up in spiritual maturity and faith. If you’d like to join other men of the parish/community,learning about God, pursuing His will, challenging one anotherin spiritual growth and sharing in the abundance of Christ, please join us for a men’s spiritual ministry meetings. We thank you for your help, support and understanding concerning this policy.AnnouncementsThe communication of announcements concerning parish life isvery important to the entire parish community. Father Siegel andFather Pratscher welcome any help that parishioners can give in communicatingimportant events to the people of the parish. Because wedo not want to inundate you with a long string of announcements at theend of Mass, the Sunday Bulletin is the ordinary way in which eventsconcerning parish life are communicated. Some information, however, does necessitate an announcement at the end of Mass. For example, you’ll notice that we highlight certain aspects of our parish’s liturgical, educational or social life at the end of Mass. Any parish organization,or parishioner, wishing to submit information to be consideredfor the Sunday announcements should have the information (inwriting) to the Rectory BEFORE the close of business on MONDAYso it can be considered for the weekend announcements. Also, thereis a deadline for articles to be published in the Sunday Bulletinbecause we need ample time to write, proof and send the bulletin copyto the printer. The deadline for submission of articles to be placed inthe bulletin is Friday 4:30 P.M. (nine days before publication) to theRectory business office.
