V2Product BrochureThe next generation of bebionic multi-articulating myo-electrichands, now available in and sizes.

V2Contents3

V2HandNow available in medium and large sizes with improvements to speed, accuracy, grip and durability in additionto new grip patterns and software features. The next generation of multi-articulating hands are betterthan ever!New features include upgraded individualmotors for significantly higher operatingspeeds. Additional grip patterns have beenintroduced including a Precision Grip, improved Tripod Grip, Mouse Grip and TriggerGrip. To optimise the convenience of wirelessprogramming, the radio frequency boardhad been redesigned and integrated withinthe hand and software has beensimplified. Soft finger pads and a wider thumbprofile increase the gripping surface andenhance the gripping abilities for each digit.Fourteen functional hand positions areprovided, with ten factory set and a furtherfour selectable through the software, allowing users to perform everydayactivities such as eating, drinking, writing, typing, turning a key in a lock, using anATM and picking up small objects. Fullyproportional, speed control allows the user tomaster delicate tasks such as manipulatingan egg or holding a filled polystyrene cup, aseasily as crushing an empty soda can.4

V2HandThere are two manually selectable thumbpositions; opposed and non-opposed. A builtin position sensor detects the chosen positionallowing the on-board computer to achievethe desired grip pattern. With a life-like, anatomical design, the fingersmove together (finger adduction) as the handcloses so that objects such as a fork or pieceof paper can be gripped naturally between thefingers.Foldaway finger links allow the fingers to flexfreely providing natural motion and allowingthe user to push up to 90kg through the handchassis to aid in standing from a seatedposition, a feature especially useful for thebilateral amputee. The fingers are of an extremely robustconstruction utilising high impactthermoplastic, with the joint connectionssecured with titanium pins. These materialsprovide reduced weight whilst maintainingstrength and durability.On-board microprocessors constantlymonitor the position of the digits to ensurethat grip sequences are accurate every time, with no loss of control or need to reset. Byplacing the motors in the palm of the handweight distribution in the prosthesis has beenoptimised.Electronics within the hand include aselectable Auto Grip feature that sense if agripped item is slipping and automaticallyprovide additional power to maintain a secureand safe hold. An audible or sensory indicatoris now included so that when activated it canconfirm to the user if hand features have beenactivated or deactivated.A soft palm area provides significant benefitsin assisting with object grasp and protectingthe internal mechanisms against impacts. Thecompliant material also suppresses motornoise, which is further reduced when thesilicone cosmetic glove is fitted.5

V2Grip PatternsThe fingers of the handmove together naturally as thefingers close. This allows the userto securely grip thin objects, suchas cutlery or a toothbrush, betweenthe fingers to achieve function in adifferent plane. Finger AdductionGrip is most functional with thehand in Power Grip but can also beachieved with the hand in Key Gripand Tripod Grip. With the thumb opposed, all four fingersclose into the palm until they meetresistance or the close signal ceases. When fingers are approaching a fullyclosed position, the thumb drives into cover the fingers for additional gripsecurity. This pattern allows roundobjects such as a ball or a piece of fruitto be held securely without exertingexcessive force. This grip can alsoprovide a handshake. Cylindricalshaped objects such as bottles, home& garden utensil handles are also heldeasily. In a partially closed Power Grip position, the Hook Grip is achieved. This is idealfor carrying a shopping bag or briefcase.7

V2Grip PatternsIn the non-opposed thumb position, the four fingers partially close. Thethumb then closes onto the side ofthe index finger. The thumb positionmay be raised and lowered withoutmoving the other four fingers allowingfor release, capture or reposition of theobject being gripped. This pattern isideal for carrying paper or letters, usinga spoon and for holding a thin flatobject such as a plate, a credit card ora key. With the thumb non-opposed thethumb and little finger close to holdthe side of the mouse, with the middleand ring fingers providing stability. Theindex finger closes on to the mousebutton and then backs off to providethe button press. Each close signalwill give a button press whilst an opensignal will release the mouse. To take full advantage of this gripRSLSteeper recommends using a TrustLaser Mouse - Carbon EditionMI-6970C, or similar. With the thumb in the non-opposed positionthe hand may be fully opened to provide a flatpalm suitable for carrying a tray or a plate etc.The thumb is set to the non-opposed positionand partially driven in toward the palm. All thefingers are driven to a slightly flexed position.9

V2Standard GloveA multi layered blended silicone hasbeen specially developed to achievethe optimum balance of durability andflexibility whilst maintaining a soft feelto the material. To maximisetear and punctureresistance, the glovefeatures a full length and seamlessintegral strengthening matrix. Thishighly flexible mesh allows theglove to move freely over the hand, significantly reducing friction duringoperation, which greatly improveshand performance and battery life. Thematrix also means that no lubrication isrequired when donning the glove. Thisalso provides increased efficiency andtherefore reduces power consumptionduring finger movements.Additional highlights such as palm, knuckle and joint detailing are providedas standard further enhancing thenatural appearance.10

V2Custom GloveSpectromatch, our unique colour matchingsystem, electronically measures skin tone toensure a near perfect match to your individualskin shade. Our Spectromatch process offersfar superior colour matching compaired to tradi-tional colour swatches. The colour matching process can be completedin a manner of minutes, providing near perfectresults regardless of lighting conditions.Unlike many similar products, our fabricationtechniques involve colouring the silicone mate-rial itself prior to sculpting, as opposed to sur-face painting. This process allows the layeringof different shades of silicone to give a naturaltranslucent finish, similar to real human skin tis-sue. Skin pigmentation, freckles, and veins canbe incorporated to ensure an authentic finish.11

V2System ComponentsThree internal battery options are available,a 2200mAh single cell can be chosenor a 2200mAh or 1300mAh in split cellconfigurations. The split cell batteries maybe used in long stump / wrist disarticulationapplications where there is limited space withthe forearm. These high performance lithiumpolymer cells supply the necessary powerrequirements for optimum performance of the system.RSLSteeper electrodes provide both 50Hzand 60Hz filtering and are supplied withlamination and thermoforming fabricationblanks. Electrode cables are available in300mm, 600mm and 1000mm lengths. Inaddition to standard control options suchas electrodes, switches or Force SensitiveResistors (FSR’s) may also be used. hands are supplied with four wristoptions including an electric quick disconnectwrist, a standard friction wrist, studded handplates in ½ x 20 and M12 threads and a shortfriction wrist to accommodate long stump /wrist disarticulation applications.Above elbow components are also available from RSLSteeper.
