89<strong>Soil</strong> Map Unit 7The moderately coarse textured soils <strong>of</strong> Map Unit 7occur onsteeply to very steeply sloping land surfaces where <strong>the</strong>re appears tobe considerable soil movement which isdisrupting and impeding soilpr<strong>of</strong>ile development .Classification :These soils are classified as Orthic and Cumulic Regosol .Pr<strong>of</strong>iles consist <strong>of</strong> a deep Ah horizon <strong>of</strong>ten apparently cumulic innature, directly overlying <strong>the</strong> C horizon .Associated Map Units :The Regosols <strong>of</strong> Map Unit 7are <strong>of</strong>ten closely associated andcomplexed in mapping with <strong>the</strong> Podzols <strong>of</strong> Map Unit 9 .The Regosols occurunder herbaceous plant communities in open areas within <strong>the</strong> forestcommunity and <strong>the</strong> Podzols under tree stands in <strong>the</strong>se areas .The soils<strong>of</strong> Map Unit 2 are <strong>of</strong>ten closely related, geographically and genetically,to Map Unit 7 soils ; however, <strong>the</strong> former have B horizons .Vegetation :Plant communities <strong>of</strong>this map unit are made up <strong>of</strong> mixedherbaceous stands, <strong>of</strong>ten occurring as open areas in discontinuous forest .Typical species include Senecio triangularis , Ligusticum canbyi andErigeron peregrinus with Abies lasiocarpa ,Rhododendron albiflorum andVaccinium membranaceum surrounding and occasionally covering <strong>the</strong> areas .Pedon Description:Described by : L .
