The aggregate amount of emoluments paid to Directors for
services rendered during the financial year ended 31 December
2010 is disclosed in Note 28 to financial statements.
SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
Road Safety-(Tyre Safety)
Sameer Africa limited is a key player in the Road Safety
campaign through Tyre Safety. In 2010, Sameer Africa was a
key participant in the National consultative workshop on Road
safety organized by the ministry of Transport at the Bomas of
Kenya in Nairobi. During the workshop, the following came to
the fore.
• Poor public awareness of the importance of tyres on
Road Safety. Current efforts to address the issue by
National Road Safety Council has been less impactful
• Poor visibility and awareness of Black Spots around
the country.
• Uncoordinated and less impactful Road Safety
campaigns by various organizations and groups as
part of the 2011 activities, Sameer Africa Limited
proposes to involve in the following:
Highlighting the importance of Tyre safety in overall
tyre safety
Statistics on Kenyan roads point to an increasing component
of tyre bursts as major causes of fatal accidents. Some of the
tyres on our vehicles in the country do not meet the required
standards and attributes to be on the road. The result is that
many lives are lost and thousands maimed through road
carnage thereby impacting on our productivity.
• We will strive to create impactful communication on
Yana’s unique attributes i.e Safety, Reliability and
Durability and educate motorists on tyres. Our tyres
are relevant to the local road and terrains which puts
them shoulders above similar tyres. Through such
efforts coordinated, Sameer Africa as the industry
leader shall be contributing on Road safety in order to
complement government efforts.
• Education: Our Yana Tyre Centre’s continue to offer
education on all aspects of tyre care and maintenance
in order to keep motorists safe and also optimize on
the use of the tyres.
• Motorists are educated on various aspects such as
tyre care, pressure checks, and alignment balancing
are given by a highly competent technical team at the
Retail outlets located at Koinange Street, Langata
Road, Embakasi, ABC Place, Mombasa, Kisumu,
Eldoret, Kampala and Dar Es Salaam.
• Occasional tyre clinics are offered to motorists and
relevant information availed by the Technical team to
enhance better understanding of tyres by motorists.
Environmental conservation
Sameer Africa certification of ISO 14001 underlines the importance
of environmental conservation in its production systems.
In 2010, we positively contributed to environmental conservation
efforts through efforts such as Rhino Charge, Rob’s Magic
Hog Charge that form strategic interventions to reduce human
wildlife conflict.
The conservation agency Rhino Ark is responsible for
electric fencing the Aberdare fence around Mount Kenya
Environmental conservation has been under intense focus
by both private, public and government agencies with a view
to creating sustainable communities and mitigating global
warming effects.
As a local manufacturer, we are obliged to be part of
environmental conservation efforts for sustainable activities.
Sameer Africa employee donates tyres to Mr. Anjere of the Kenya Society of the
Physically Handicapped to be used by the association’s vehicle.
