Lee Nelson chaired the meeting and Everett Johnson served asthe recording secretary. <strong>The</strong> meeting was called to order at 12:45 p.m.Susan Beasley presented a report of the 1998 All-State Chorus, complimenting Dr. AnnHoward Jones, Conductor, on her work with the ensemble and also complimenting theimproving attentiveness of the students in the chorus. She had received significant responsefrom both administrators and directors complimenting the conductor and the festival.John Aboud distributed a printed report of the 1998 All-State Band commending RickStendel upon completion of his six years as the All-State Band Chair. Compliments werealso extended to the ISU wind/percussion staff as well as the <strong>Iowa</strong> State Center staff fortheir assistance with auditions and equipment. He is looking to expand the list of personnelon the All-State auditor list.Bruce Eilers presented a printed report of the 1998 All-State Orchestra. Chair placementauditions were performed “blind” for the first time and, though small difficulties were experienced,with modifications, they will be continued. He extended his appreciation toCandace Wiebener, Jeanie Dowd, Everett Johnson, and the ISU wind staff for assistanceduring his first year as chair. He also strongly complimented Dr. Glenn Block onthe quality of the work accomplished with the orchestra.<strong>The</strong> concert program order for the <strong>1999</strong> All-State Concert was presented as:America the Beautiful - Orchestra and ChorusOrchestraChorusBandBattle Hymn of the Republic - Band and ChorusSusan Beasley presented a slate of conductors for the 2001 All-State Chorus.MMS(BENNETT/FRAKES) to add the name of Aimee Beckmann-Collier to the list.PASSED MM(BENNETT) to submit Beckmann-Collier’s name as the first-choice for2001. This motion died for lack of a second. MMS(FRAKES/KREITZER) to placeBeckmann-Collier’s name in the fourth position of preference. PASSEDJohn Aboud presented a slate of three conductors for the 2001 All-State Band. Followingdiscussion, MMS(DARNELL/MERZ) to adopt the slate as presented. PASSEDBruce Eilers presented a slate of three conductors for the 2001 All-State Orchestra.Following discussion, MMS(BENNETT/MERZ) to adopt the slate as presented. PASSEDMr. Eilers presented a request to increase the number of oboes in the orchestra fromthree to six. <strong>The</strong>re was no opposition to this suggestion.Everett Johnson briefly explained the position of the IHSMA Executive Committee followinglast year’s court proceedings and outlined procedures implemented for the <strong>1999</strong>and future festivals.
