MMS(MERZ/BRIGHAM) piano and organ accompanist candidatesmust be a member of band, orchestra, or chorus to be eligible for audition.PASSED (5-1) In this manner, they are less likely to be overlooked and should also bemore aware of the policies and regulations. MMS(DARNELL/DOTSON) to adopt a $100,per student, penalty to correct clerical errors on the registration form. This penalty is tobe paid by the school. PASSED Audition times for students under this provision will bearranged in “scratch” slots or placed at the end of the audition classification for that particularinstrument. The penalty must be paid to the IHSMA office before the auditiondate. Committee members Darnell and Nugent will peruse registration forms in an attemptto aid in the determination of possible errors. All trades must be finalized by 5:00 p.m. on the PenaltyPostmark Deadline date and be accompanied by letter verification of the transaction.PASSED The current program of returning All-State lost and found will be amended.The IHSMA office will identify as many items as possible and notify schools of the postageamount required for its return. Upon receipt of the postage, the item(s) will be returned.SHOW-JAZZ CHOIR/JAZZ BAND FESTIVAL: A printed report reflecting registrations,participation and a partially completed financial report was presented. This programcontinues to show a steady increase in participation. MMS(BRIGHAM/MERZ) to allowMr. Video to tape the 2000 festival and market video tapes to participants. PASSED (3-2) They will be encouraged to zoom for soloists and utilize creative imagination in thevideo process.PIANO FESTIVAL: The registration report for this festival was examined. It shows anincrease of 31 participants over the previous year. The secretary reported severalschools had missed registering for this year’s festival because of the change in registrationdeadlines. They had not read the provided materials.LARGE GROUP FESTIVAL: The secretary reported the work of the IBA Concert BandAffairs Committee’s investigation of a Required Music List for Concert Bands. They havedone extensive research and surveying of the band community in Iowa. There are somedissidents to the concept but a recommendation for adoption appears to be forthcoming.Jolesch Photography submitted a request for consideration of a photography service tothis program. Facility and format constraints appear to be insurmountable at this time.MARCHING BAND FESTIVAL: The report of this festival reflected the effects of therain-outs on the south-side festivals. There were a number of concerns generated bythis situation that will be forwarded to the April meeting for resolution.MMS(DOTSON/MERZ) to approve a one year contract with Mr. Video for supplyingvideo service to this festival. PASSED The secretary was directed to include a letterwith the contract requesting continued consideration of zoom lenses, camera panning,microphone location and creative imagination in the taping process.MMS(NUGENT/DOTSON) to develop a “rain-out” policy utilizing the following Thursday
