Thewinning flavor for <strong>Linton</strong> was STRAWBERRY NIGHT DREAM, by Jocelynin Mrs. Baldwin's class! Over 160 votes were cast. Her flavor will competeagainst the 9 other schools during the week of May 29- April 6.

Beginning, intermediate and advanced programs will be offered to studentsthis summer. Parents should select the appropriate class based on their child’s currentgrade level. Beginning Instruments will be offered July 23 - Aug. 10 to students currently in 5 thgrade – Registration deadline is June 1. Intermediate instrumental will be offered July 23 - Aug. 10 for students currentlyin 6 th and 7 th grade – Registration deadline is June 1.Advanced instrumental will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays in June for studentscurrently in 8 th – 12 th grade – Registration deadline is May 18.Registration information is available on the <strong>PSD</strong> website, under Academics (on the toptool bar), Summer <strong>School</strong>.STEM Institute for 5th - 12th GradersThe STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Institutes will be held atseveral middle schools this summer, as well as Fossil Ridge High <strong>School</strong>.The STEM Institutes, which will be held June 4 - 8 and June 11-15, give students achance to explore subjects they are interested in deeper. Classes in Vet Science, Chemistry,Boom!, Anatomy, Space Science, and many more will be offered.The middle school institutes will be held at Preston, Webber, Wellington, Lesher andBerthoud (Turner) and are open to current 5th - 8th graders.The high school program at FRHS is open to current 8th – 12th graders.For more information, read the STEM brochure. In-depth class information and costs arelisted on the STEMinstitutes.org website."I Walk & Ride Safely" program teaches safety skills to kindergartners, Early Childhoodstudents, and first gradersParents and their students entering kindergarten this fall are encouraged to attend thefree annual I Walk & Ride Safely program sponsored by <strong>Poudre</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong>, the FortCollins Police Department, and the Larimer County Sheriff’s Department. Older studentsare also welcome to attend. Children will learn how to walk to school or ride a schoolbus safely. Instructions are given under actual traffic conditions, including crosswalks,signs, traffic signals, automobile traffic, and crossing guards. <strong>PSD</strong> school bus operatorsparticipate at all schools and the Fort Collins Police Department and/or Larimer CountySheriff’s Department will participate at some schools. We have had a great time in PE this last month finishing up badmintonin the 3 rd , 4 th , and 5 th grades. The students did a great job learning theskills and tactics and played games extremely well. I was even more impressedsince this is the first time they have had a badminton unit. WELL DONE 3-4-5!We are well into our track and field unit for 3-4-5 as well. We have been workingon sprint races, the long and triple jump instruction started this week, andwe will follow up with the throws (shot put and softball) as well as distance runningtactics. K-1-2 has been busy with our field day unit learning the games andprocedures for field day.Speaking of Track and Field, the annual <strong>PSD</strong> <strong>Elementary</strong> Track Meet for 4 th and5 th grades will be held at French Field (Rocky Mountain High <strong>School</strong>) on May 2and May 5 th , 2012. We have been going through the qualifying process duringintramurals. Boys and girls in 4 th and 5 th grades have an opportunity to qualifyin up to 5 of 10 events and participate at the district meet. If your child/childrenhave qualified for the meet, look for information coming home in the next coupleof weeks.Mileage ClubI cannot begin to tell you how impressed I am with the popularity of this activity.At last count we have 126 participants, (students, siblings, and parents). Andwe are still growing! We meet every Monday and Thursday after school from3:00 to 3:45 weather permitting. At this point 27 participants have reached the10 Mile Club and 2 have reached the 20 mile mark. They will have their picturestaken for the Mileage Club Wall of Fame later next month. Congratulations!!!!!! Itis not too late to start, everyone is welcome to come. (Just as an FYI, next weekthere will be no Mileage Club as Monday, 4/16 is a collaboration day for thestaff, no school for kids and Thursday 4/19, I will be at ECO-WEEK with the 5 thgrade.)Field DayField Day preparations are well under way! Please set aside Friday May 25 th(rain date is Tuesday May 29 th ) and come have a blast with your kids!!! I lookforward to this event every year as it is a giant PE PARTY in which we celebratePE and show what we have learned about character, sportsmanship, and teamwork.A final time schedule will be posted in the upcoming weeks. ThisArt show is a long standing tradition in the <strong>Poudre</strong> <strong>School</strong> <strong>District</strong> and features artwork from everyschool. There will be a reception for the student artists on display on Monday, April 23 from 5:30-7:30.I hope everyone will make an effort to stop by <strong>Linton</strong>’s display, because of limited space I can’tchoose every student to “go to the mall” but I do make an effort to highlight as many kids as possible.Be on the look-out for a note home indicating that your student is there.Tie DyeIt’s almost time for the 5 th grade to tie dye. I will be sending notes home soon with instructions onwhat they will need and when they will need it. I don’t want any students to miss out on the fun,so if bringing a t-shirt is a problem for anyone, please let me know-we can work it out.Mrs. Bignall<strong>District</strong> Battle of the Books Results-Way to go <strong>Linton</strong>!We had another great year for our <strong>District</strong> Battle of the Books! On ThursdayApril 5th teams from <strong>Linton</strong>, O’Dea, Lopez, and Beattie participated.Here are the results:3rd Grade-The <strong>Linton</strong> team took the trophy!-Team members are JosephConnor, Mason Helm, Heber Tagle, and Jacob Iverson; coachedby Erin Connor4th Grade-The Lopez team took the trophy-congratulations to AnnaImark, Addie Francone, and Savannah Clyde; our <strong>Linton</strong> team did awonderful job too-team members are: Jocelyn Burnside, Brian Clarke,Joanna Olsen, and Ben Poulsen; coached by Kristi Poulsen5th Grade-<strong>Linton</strong> team took the trophy!-Team members are MarkHansen, Mike Van Shaar, Nathan Richmond, and Ben Mortensen;coached by Jennifer Hansen.Thank you so much to Mrs. Stolte, Mrs. Leerssen, Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Harbour,and Ms. Larson for helping at the event.
