CLUB NOTES
LILYDALE
Coming up against Noble Park on their home patch was
certainly going to be a big test for all sides. The final
outcome shows that Noble Park won all games
convincingly, however results can be misleading. The
seniors pushed last years premiers to the maximum
playing hard committed footy. A 45 point final margin
did not do justice to the team although we did
contribute by kicking 2 goals 9 behinds in the last
quarter. The reserves having lost players to the seniors
to cover injuries and coping with their own growing
injury list did not prevent them from putting up a
gallant display. The end margin did not do justice to
their efforts and the same could be said about the under
18's who continue to show improvement each week.
Today we come up against East Ringwood who will be
keen to get back on the winning list. Let us start to
make our mark in divy one. "Go Dales"
MITCHAM
A good away trip to Blackburn for the tigers bringing
home 3 wins. The colts big winners with McWhinney 7
Stewart 6 and Arnott 4 doing the damage. The ressies
had the close one getting home by the solitary point.
Millard Alderton and Gray among the best. The seniors,
comfortable winners with 5 goals from Pimmy and
solid games from Collins Heath and Ploutos. Take the
winning form to ramland.
THE EASTERN FOOTBALLER
VERMONT
Our biggest result at East Ringwood in memory, with
the Seniors showing great desire for the footy at every
contest. The Craig Coghlan Pewter went to Andrew
Smith for a close to perfect game of footy. Other best
Jamie Rushton, Grant McCarthy, Ryan Cassidy, Mark
Cullen, Kris Barlow, Bernie Dinneen. The Reserves had
a poor day and despite a great start lost the plot. The
Perry Fletcher Pewter was won by Alister Wylie. Other
best were Tom Lee and Andrew Ferguson. The Colts
had a terrific win which puts them firmly in the four.
Bob Beard Pewter was won by Jarrad Bird. Others Brad
Neil, Daniel Mendes, Steve Newman. Congratulations
to Dan Papillo for his 50th Senior game today. Tonight
we finally have the Bernie Dinneen function of all
functions, after the awards. You get to dress up or
down. Today we launch our end of season Raffle and
what a prize. A $1200 self propelled mower mulcher
kindly donated by Alan and Pam Wilkinson from
Simplicity Imports. This mower almost does the work
by itself.
WANTIRNA SOUTH
Last week we took on East Burwood for the first time
at our home base. The Colts were up against the ladder
leaders and by half-time were struggling to make an
impression on the scoreboard. Despite injuries to key
players on the day and absence of others on an
interstate school trip they never gave up and took it
right up to their talented opponents. The Reserves could
not match the strength of one player who finished with
an impressive 8 goals in a stand out performance. It’s a
pity that performance was marred by his less than
impressive verbal stoush with our female Team
Manager when he left the ground at half time - vulgar
and unnecessary! The seniors played catch up football
for most of the day and despite a 10 goal last quarter
were left to ponder why they didn’t apply ball pressure
earlier in the match. SOCIAL NOTES: all members and
supporters are invited to attend the dinner dance on
Saturday 30 July, commencing 7:00pm at Knox Tavern.
outstanding contribution on the field in years gone by.
also been invited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of
that event. Bookings are essential. Contact Julie
