It served as a platform for the studentsto showcase their problem solving skills anddecision making abilities. 6 teams from over 450 thatparticipated were chosen and asked to presenttheir solutions to distinguished academicians andindustry experts.Judges deciding the winners.The winners received a prize of Rs. 75,000 from theGuest of Honour Dr. Ayoub Kazim - M.D of DubaiKnowledge Village and Dubai InternationalAcademic City. Out of the total marks, 70% is meant for continuous assessment over the duration of the practicaltraining and 30% for the final examination to be held on the last day of the practical training. Since this practicaltraining requires advanced equipment and imported chemicals, it will be conducted only at the University designatednodal centres. These nodal centres are provided with full fledged infrastructure and trained staff to support thestudents. www.smude.edu.in 69EVALUATION AND GRADINGThe assessment system has been conceived, developed andadministered on a rigorous and fair basis to bring out the bestin students and prepare them for challenging careers.A student's performance is based on:a) Theory Papers:Theory part is assessed by the performance based oncontinuous evaluation through assignments and term-endexaminations conducted at the examination centers. Theassessment ratios for University Examinations (U.E) toInternal Assessment (I.A) is 70:30. The I.A ia based on twoassignments stipulated by the University.A student must get an average of 40% in both the parts anda minimum of 35% in each part.b) Practical Papers (as applicable):The ratio U.E:I.A is 30:70 ( the ratio is reversed to give moreweightage to stage-wise acquisition of skills).The assessment in practical part is based on theperformance in Guided Exercises (i.e., day-to-dayexercises) and Unguided Exercises – the latter will beconducted at the last day of the practical sessions in eachsubject with an external examiner.A student must get an average of 40% in both the parts anda minimum of 35% in each part.Based on the student's performance, the following gradingsystem will be adopted:• A = Excellent (+70%)• B = Very Good (+60%)• C = Good (+50%)• D = Satisfactory (+40%)• E = FailureImportant note:1.
