Preflight at the FieldRange Test Your RadioAdjusting the EngineStep 1. Before each flying session, be sure to range checkyour radio. This is accomplished by turning on your transmitterwith the antenna collapsed. Turn on the radio in your airplane.With your airplane on the ground, you should be able to walk30 paces away from your airplane and still have completecontrol of all functions. If not, don’t attempt to fly! Have yourradio equipment checked out by the manufacturer.Step 2. Double-check that all controls (aileron, elevator,rudder, and throttle) move in the correct direction.Step 3. Be sure that your batteries are fully charged, per theinstructions included with your radio.Step 1. Completely read the instructions included with yourengine and follow the recommended break-in procedure.Step 2. At the field, adjust the engine to a slightly rich setting atfull throttle and adjust the idle and slow speed needle so that aconsistent idle is achieved. Before you fly be sure that yourengine reliably idles, transitions and runs at all throttle settings.Only when this is achieved should any plane be consideredready for flight.Step 3. Before each flight, check the tightness of al the enginemounting bolts.Step 4. Check all control linkages to make sure they aresecurely fastened.49
