Vongspent several months building a bird blind thatis currently in use at the Minnesota Arboretumin Chaska. A great deal of planning went intoVong's project and the construction materials alone totaledover $400. Vong plans to attend the University ofMinnesota and study architecture. He currently is amanager at Crown Theatre and has participated inWrestling and Soccer. He is also historian of the NationalHonor Society and active in Asian Club. The Eagle ScoutRank is one of the highest achievements that a youngperson can accomplish.Stephen Jewett '07 Eagle Scout2/13/2007 5:50 PMStephen Jewett recently was honored withhis Eagle Scout award with a projectcalled, Birthday Bags. This project involvedcommunication with lots of people in thecommunity requesting donations of wrappingpaper, gift bags, cake mix, frosting, toys (age appropriate),party favors, matching plates, spoons, forks and anythingelse that would make a birthday great. This projectbenefited the Children's Nursery in greater Minneapolis.The birthday bags are for children who don’t get a chanceto celebrate their birthday. He collected more than 600supplies that made 61 birthday bags. Stephen is also anaccomplished musician playing 9 different instruments andspecializing in synthesizer music like Grillz (ElecktroStyle). In addition to their academicstrengths, these students have with outstanding skill setsincluding: Bryce Ratliff (athletics), Blair White (careerexcellence), Gabrielle White (student government),Boubakar Jalloh (career entrepreneur) and Elly Lee(career excellence). All students are in the process toreceive scholarships from Kiwanis and will return foranother luncheon date on January 9th at the MinneapolisClub.Ms. Ornelas Earns Prestigious Certification1/3/2007 1:15 PMThursday, December 14th was a day ofcelebration at Patrick Henry as we learnedthat Ms. Ornelas earned her National BoardCertification. Click here toread the interview and see the team photo enlarged.Al Nolen Jr. '07 Signs Scholarship Offer withUniversity of Minnesota1/3/2007 12:50 PMThe Patrick Henrybasketball program celebrated its 14thmember (in the last 8 years) to sign with aDivision I school when Al Nolen Jr. signedwith the U of M Gophers on November 8th.Former Coach Larry McKenzie noted that it is extremelyrare for three members of a high school team to play onthe same team at the Division I level. Next year Al will joinformer Patrick Henry players, Brandon Smith '05 andLawrence McKenzie '03. In the last eight years 36 playersfrom our program have gone on to play basketball incollege or at a university. Al was also recruited byNorthern Iowa, Indiana State, and Oklahoma. Hisbasketball goal for this year is to win another StateChampionship trophy for Patrick Henry. Bryce is thestrongest cross country our school has had inseveral years. The District All ConferenceCross Country team is also the strongest inseveral years, perhaps of all time. Bryce believes his topaccomplishment in Cross Country was running a 17minute 56 second 5K run to finish in first place in theseven team Cambridge-Isanti Cross CountryInvitational. Bryce won over 43 other runners. Just waitwhen you see him run for Track.
