Get Involved in Your Community<strong>Delaware</strong> Citizens Academy •DCA was organized to provide an overview <strong>of</strong> your city and prepareyou to take an active role in it. As a DCA participant, you do not needany prior knowledge <strong>of</strong> local government, but will receive nearly 20hours <strong>of</strong> instruction about your <strong>City</strong>, tour city facilities and get to meetbehind-the-scenes department heads. The academy meets once eachyear, in the spring. Unless noted otherwise, classes are held two orthree weeknights a month between March and June and run 6-8p.m.Registration is free and begins each year in January; class size islimited to 20. For more information, phone 740-203-1015.<strong>Delaware</strong> Police DepartmentCitizens Police AcademyThe Citizens Police Academy gives enrollees a taste <strong>of</strong> what police workis all about and includes opportunities to ride with <strong>of</strong>ficers, investigate amock crime scene, search buildings filled with "suspects" and havesomeone answer all <strong>of</strong> those, "I wonder why they do that" questions.The 11-week academy meets Thursdays from 6:30-9 p.m. Students areinstructed on such topics as criminal law, patrol procedures, criminaljustice system, drug investigation, traffic stops, building searches,firearms, domestic violence, and criminal investigation. For more information, phone 740- 203-1132.Law Enforcement Explorers ProgramThe Explorers program bridges the gap between youth and police byeducating and involving them in police operations and interesting themin law enforcement. Exploring is for young men and women, age 14 to20. Exploring can further each Explorer's education, encourage theExplorer's participation in a rewarding and productive service <strong>activity</strong>,and enhance the Explorer's preparation for future roles as citizen andcommunity members. Members can learn first-hand how PoliceOfficers do their jobs.
