OperationThe rear axle lock indicator illuminates when the forkliftis in the axle lock mode. The rear axle locks when theparking brake is set to ON (engaged), the transmission isin NEUTRAL or the service brake applied, and when theboom is above 40°.If the rear axle lock indicator does not illuminate, stopthe forklift, follow proper shut down procedures, tag theforklift with “Do Not Operate” tags, and have a qualifiedmechanic service or repair the forklift before placing itinto service again.Changing Travel Direction WarningXR1045Make sure the forklift comes to a completestop before moving the travel select lever.A sudden change in direction of travel,while carrying a load, can reduce stabilityand/or cause the load to shift or fall, which could resultin death, serious injury, or property damage.1. Stop the forklift by applying the service brakepedal. If necessary, shift to a lower gear to helpslow the forklift.2. Move the travel select lever to FORWARD (F) orREVERSE (R).3. Release the service brake pedal.4. Slowly press the accelerator pedal to start travel.Figure 7-16. Rear Axle Lock Indicator.Stopping Travel1. Stop the forklift by applying the service brake pedal.2. Downshift the forklift to a lower gear, if necessary, toslow the forklift until it comes to a complete stop.3. Move the travel select lever to NEUTRAL (N).4. Set the parking brake to ON (engaged).Shut Down Procedure1. Park the forklift on level ground, if possible.2. Stop the forklift by applying the service brake pedal.3. Place the travel select lever in NEUTRAL (N) and setthe parking brake to ON (engaged).4. Lower the boom and rest carriage on ground.5. Turn the ignition key to OFF and remove the key.6. If the forklift is parked on an incline, block the wheels. XR1045OperationRefuelingAttachments WarningEngine fuel is flammable andcould cause a fire or explosion.To prevent death or seriousinjury, DO NOT smoke whilerefueling and keep sparks and open flames away fromthe forklift.NOTE: The fuel tank capacity is 48 gallons (180 liters).1. Make sure the forklift is level to obtain an accuratefuel level reading.2. Shut off the engine.3. Ground the fuel nozzle against the filler neck to avoidsparks.Fuel TypesUse ASTM #2 diesel fuel with a minimum Cetane rating of40 for better fuel economy and performance under mostoperating conditions.• Use standard #2 diesel fuel for operating attemperatures above 32°F (0°C).• Use a blend of #1 and #2 diesel fuel (“winterized” #2diesel) for operating at temperatures below 32°F (0°C).• Fuels with Cetane ratings higher than 40 may be neededin higher altitude or an extremely low temperatureclimate to prevent misfiring and excessive smoke.Attachment Disclaimer WarningDO NOT exceed the manufacturer’s ratedload for any auxiliary attachment. This rating is stampedon the left edge of the fork just below the fork pivot shaft.The rating is listed in U.S. pounds and based upon a 24inch (610 mm) load center (B).
