<strong>Operation</strong><strong>XR1045</strong>Four Wheel Steering (4W)Four wheel (4W) steering allows the frontwheels to turn in the same direction and therear wheels to turn in the opposite direction ofthe steering wheel. The rear wheels follow thefront wheel path. Four wheel (4W) steering is useful for ashort turning radius and in muddy or sandy conditions.Two Wheel Rear Steering (2WR) (Optional)Optional two wheel rear (2WR) steeringallows the rear wheels to turn in the samedirection as the steering wheel. The frontwheels remain in a fixed forward position.NOTE: A separate switch is located on the right side ofthe dash panel to engage and disengage the optional twowheel rear (2WR) steering mode.Maximum Fork Sweep WarningAllow for adequate clearance betweenthe attachment and other objects whenturning. The attachment extends beyondthe front of the forklift. The operator mustbe aware of the maximum sweep of any attachmentbeing used, when turning, to avoid hitting personneland other objects in the area to prevent death, seriousinjury, or property damage.Starting Travel WarningUse proper safety procedures and avoidhazardous situations while operating theforklift to prevent death, serious injury, orproperty damage.• Check the work site for any hazards before operatingthe forklift.• Check the work surface for loose soil conditions andoverhead power lines. WarningTo prevent death or serious injury,the operator must be seated with seatbelt fastened, the travel select leverset to NEUTRAL, the Parking BrakeON (engaged), and the area free of people andobstructions BEFORE starting the forklift.1. Start the forklift. Refer to the Starting Forklift sectionin this manual.2. Apply service brake.3. Release parking brake.4. Rotate the gear select switch to the gear desired.5. Move the travel select lever to FORWARD or REVERSEfor the appropriate direction of travel.6. Release the service brake pedal.7. Slowly press the accelerator pedal to start travel.Figure 7-13.
