XR1045OperationBefore Starting Forklift Warninginjury.Failure to use proper safety procedureswhen mounting and dismounting theforklift could result in death or serious• Keep steps clear of dirt, mud, snow, ice, debris, andother hazards.• Face the forklift for mounting or dismounting. Usehand holds and steps to maintain three (3) points ofcontact at all times, either both hands and one footor both feet and one hand.• DO NOT use the controls, steering wheel, or footpedals as hand holds or steps. Avoid accidentallyengaging or disengaging a control.DO NOT jump from the forklift.Clothing can get caught on pedals, levers,or other protruding parts. Landing onuneven surfaces could result in death orserious injury.1. Master battery disconnect on.2. Use safe mounting/dismounting procedures to enterthe operator cab.3. Adjust the operator seat for position and comfort.(Refer to Seat Adjustment section in this manual)4. Adjust mirrors (this may require assistance).5. Adjust the side console control panel.6. Fasten seat belt.7. Make sure the travel select lever is set to NEUTRAL (N)and the Parking Brake is ON (engaged).Figure 7-8. Place key in Ignition switch. (Continue with step 3)NOTE: The engine will only start when the travel selectlever is in NEUTRAL (N) and the Parking Brake switch is ON(engaged).Figure 7-9. Key and Ignition Switch.CautionRelease the key immediately once the motor starts.If the motor does not start, DO NOT crank the startermotor continuously for more than 15 seconds. Failureto release the key after the motor has started orcontinuous cranking may damage the starter motor.Figure 7-7.
