Safety<strong>XR1045</strong>Forklift Maintenance WarningFollow the manufacturer’s instructions for propermaintenance to make sure the forklift continuesto meet manufacturer’s specifications. Failure toproperly maintain the forklift can result in improperperformance, which could cause death, serious injury,or property damage.Attach “Do Not Operate” tags to theIgnition switch and steering wheel beforebeginning any service or maintenance.• “Do Not Operate” tags indicate the forklift shouldnot be operated until all service or maintenance iscompleted.• Keep two (2) legible “Do Not Operate” tags withthe forklift at all times. “Do Not Operate” tags areprovided in this manual.Figure 2-2. Do Not Operate Tag.• DO NOT operate the forklift and attachments if theyrequire repairs.• Make sure basic maintenance is completed andservice problems are corrected.• Death or serious injury can result from operatinga forklift before all repairs have been made and allproper maintenance is completed. WarningTires must have proper ballast. DONOT replace foam-filled tires withpneumatic tires. Use of pneumatic tireswill severely affect vehicle load capacity,which could result in death, serious injury, or propertydamage.Check hydraulic oil lines,tubes, and hoses carefully. DONOT use your bare hand tocheck for leaks. Always usea board or cardboard when checking for a hydraulicleak. Escaping hydraulic fluid under pressure, evena pinhole size leak, can penetrate body tissue, whichcould cause death or serious injury. If hydraulic oil isinjected into your skin, a doctor familiar with this typeof injury must treat it immediately.Serious injury could resultfrom hydraulic oil pressureor hot oil. DO NOT remove ahydraulic tank filler cap unlessit is cool enough to touch with bare hands. Removethe hydraulic tank filler cap slowly to relieve pressure.Relieve all pressure in a hydraulic system before anycaps, lines, fittings, or related items are disconnectedor removed.It is possible for the forklift to movesuddenly when the brakes are released,which could result in death, serious injury,or property damage. To prevent suddenmovement of the forklift, place wheel chocks in frontof and behind wheels before the brakes are released.If the forklift is to be towed, make surethe released brake(s) can be reapplied orthe tow vehicle has the braking capacityto stop the forklift.DO NOT use ether as a startingaid. Ether is flammable andcan cause an explosion whenstarting the engine, whichcould result in death or serious injury.
