Safety<strong>XR1045</strong> WarningBecome completely familiar with theforklift before operating on slopes. Thereach forklift could overturn due tosudden movement or while operating on aslope resulting in death or serious injury.DO NOT raise the boom whileoperating on a slope. Raisingthe boom on a slope, evenwithout a load, will change thecenter of gravity, could cause a tip over, and result indeath or serious injury.• DO NOT turn on a steep slope.• DO NOT drive the forklift across slopes.• Always drive the forklift straight up and down aslope (never drive diagonally up or down a slope).• Drive the forklift forward up a slope (front of forkliftfacing uphill).• Back the forklift down a slope when loaded (front offorklift facing uphill).Follow appropriate procedures to preventsudden changes in forklift speed thatcould result in death or serious injury.• Turn the gear select lever to the lowest speedbefore descending a slope and before loading orunloading a trailer.• DO NOT adjust the travel select lever while theforklift is moving.• DO NOT coast downhill. Keep the travel select leverin the appropriate position.DO NOT exit the forklift without followingproper shut down procedures.Engine fuel is flammable andcan cause a fire or explosionresulting in death or seriousinjury. DO NOT smoke whilerefueling and keep sparks and open flames away fromthe forklift. WarningThe reach forklift includes a Frame SwayOverride switch. Improper use of theFrame Sway Override switch could result indeath, serious injury, or property damage.Make sure the forklift frame is level beforeraising and extending the boom. Frameswaying left or right with the boom raisedis extremely dangerous and can result indeath or serious injury.• Use the frame sway control to level the forkliftbefore raising the boom.• Reposition the forklift if it cannot be leveled usingthe frame sway control.• DO NOT enter or exit a tilted cab.• Remain seated with the seat belt securely fastenedwhile the cab is tilted.• Keep personnel at least 30 feet (9.14 meters) from atilted forklift.Contact with hot surfaces and the exhaustpipe after the forklift has been operatedcould result in serious personal injury.Check warning indicators and gaugeson the dash panel frequently duringoperation. If a warning indicator isilluminated or a gauge shows abnormalreadings, stop the forklift, follow proper shut downprocedures, tag the forklift with “Do Not Operate”tags, and have a qualified mechanic service or repairthe forklift BEFORE placing it into service again.Ignoring warning indicators can result in death,serious injury, or property damage.CautionRelease the key immediately once the motor starts.If the motor does not start, DO NOT crank the startermotor continuously for more than 15 seconds. Failureto release the key after the motor has started orcontinuous cranking can damage the starter motor.DO NOT change steering modes until the forkliftcomes to a complete stop.
