The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 12 June 2013BVisit us @ www.ChampNews.com • 5Stadium plansheld back whileclub looks tobuy propertiesaround AnfieldReport by Holly RummensLIVERPOOL FC should have completed theacquisition of properties around Anfieldstadium by the end of the summer, which willallow redevelopment proposals to be putforward.The club has had to put on hold processingany planning applications to extend the MainStand and Anfield Road part of the stadiumuntil this has taken place.Managing director Ian Ayre estimates that itRedevelopment on holdpending final purchasesshould take another two months for theremaining homes to be aquired.Liverpool City Council have been workingalong side Your Housing Group to leadnegotiations with the local residents to gettheir feedback on the new plans.Some residents say they have felt neglectedduring the decision process and have claimedthey have been offered unreasonable prices forAnfield stadiumtheir properties.Mr Ayre said: “Our goal is to extend Anfieldbut we need certainty and that comes with theacquisition of properties.“Real progress has been made in acquiringthem. Once they have all been acquired we willgo through the planning process.“Once planning has been achieved then wecan start construction.”Once plans are completed the stadium isexpected to hold around 60,000 fans and willmassively boost match day revenue.Mr Ayre added: “We are in a very fortunateposition in that we generate some of thebiggest revenues in football despite having notbeen as successful on the pitch as we wouldhave liked in recent years.“We also have a huge fan base around theworld. We’ve sold 100,000 tickets at the MCGin Australia this summer and there has been asimilar demand for tickets for the otherpre–season tour matches in Jakarta andBangkok.”holly.rummens@champnews.comThief incemeterycaught outby CSI teamA THIEF who broke into a car parked outsideBootle cemetery was caught after a CSI teamrecovered his fingerprints.Kenneth Wright, 37, of Starling Way, hadpreviously pleaded guilty to theft from avehicle and appeared at Sefton Magistrateson June 6 following a pre–sentence report.Lynne Ingman prosecuting told the courtthat on the afternoon of Saturday, March 30victim Gillian Butler had parked her silverFiat Punto near the cemetery and put herhandbag in the passenger side foot–well,covering it over with a carrier bag.In the bag were a Samsung Galaxy mobilephone, identity cards and cash cards – alongwith a note of a PIN number.Sometime between 1.30pm and 1.45pmWright was said to have forced his way intothe vehicle and stolen the bag. A short timelater a withdrawal of £300 was made fromone of the cash cards, followed by a furtherwithdrawal of £200 soon after.A CSI team examined the car, Ingman said,and Wright’s fingerprints were foundleading to his arrest.“It can’t have been me, I’ve not been introuble for five years”, he was said to havetold police and during a subsequentinterview he gave no comment.Wright has a record, she said, for burglaryand drugs offences. His last offence being in2009 when he was sentenced to custody fortheft and assault on a police officer.Telling the court that Wright was aware thecar could have belonged to someone visitinga grave, his defence solicitor said thisincident was a relapse, saying that for fouryears he has demonstrated he can stay of outtrouble.Sentencing him to 12 weeks custody,suspended for 12 months, the magistratesordered him to pay £800 in compensation –which includes £300 for the damage to thecar – along with £85 prosecution costs andan £80 victim surcharge.
