It may be someassistance is needed with simple taskslike washing yourself, cooking, gettingfrom A to B, cleaning or even gettingdaily shop in.It may be that there already is anetwork helping someone out (relativeor friend) but if this is not the case helpcan still be given to those who need itthe most. And if someone needs financialsupport from the council the first stepwill be to contact the Social Servicedepartment for an need assessment.GPs can advise as well if there areuncertainties or difficulties in seekingthe information alone. The assessment would take placeat home and it is a good idea for theproblems to be listed first.Too often, people can get tonguetied on the day of the visit so a checklistis a helpful aid. The assessor will look atthe social side and also the emotionalimpact these difficulties have on theassessee's life. After the visit, a careplan will be made and the help onoffer could be the difference betweenstaying home longer or not being ableto cope...There is no shame in getting olderand there is no shame in asking for helpthat the council makes provision for.We all want to stay at home as longas possible and this first step may verywell be sufficient to solve seeminglyinsurmountable problems.bluebirdcareFormby Business Centre, 42 Duke Street,Formby, Merseyside, L37 4AT.Tel: 01704 832199 web: www.bluebirdcare.co.ukAre You edWith Your Care AtHome Provider? We have spoken with many peoplereceiving care services from otherorganisations throughout Sefton over thepast few months, and found that very fewpeople are 100% happy with the servicethey receive.
