The <strong>Champion</strong> • Wednesday 12 June 2013Paying tributeto volunteersBSTRANDCARPETSVisit us @ www.ChampNews.com • 11NOWOPEN INRICE LANEWALTONVolunteers from BootleBy David RavenDEDICATED volunteers from South Seftonhave been honoured for theiroutstanding contribution to the localcommunity.The group joined other volunteers fromacross the borough at a presentation ceremonyat Bootle Town Hall organised by VolunteerCentre Sefton – part of Sefton CVS – andsupported by Lady Green Garden Centre inInce Blundell.VIP guests at the event were DeputyLord–Lieutenant of Merseyside, ColonelMartin Amlot OBE, and Mrs Daphne Amlot.They were joined by Mayor of Sefton,Councillor Maureen Fearn and her consort MrFrank Winrow.Volunteer Centre Sefton figures show that theorganisation recognised more than 200,000Code NAhours of volunteering in the borough duringthe last financial year. Based on average wagerates for Sefton, this equates to an investmentof around £2.6 million in Sefton organisationsby volunteers over the 12–month period.Vicky Keeley, Sefton CVS volunteer andcitizenship lead, said: “This annual event is afantastic way for us to acknowledge andcelebrate the hard work of volunteersthroughout the borough over the last year.“Volunteering is an opportunity for anyone tomake a contribution – to give their time, nomatter how little it is, no matter how young orold they are, where they come from or whattheir background is.
