R E Q U I R E M E N T SF. GENERAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSGeneral Education is the part of an educational programthat introduces students to areas of study thatdevelop breadth of outlook and contribute to balanceddevelopment. This general education is complementaryto, but different in emphasis from, the specialized educationreceived for a job, a profession, or from focusing ona particular field of study. The purpose of the program inGeneral Education is to assist students in moving towardthe following goals:• Developing critical and constructive thinking forproblem solving and value discrimination.• Understanding their relationship to their biological,physical, and cultural environment.• Understanding the creative activity of others and participatingto some extent in creative activity.• Using basic mechanical, mathematical, and communicationskills to solve everyday problems, understandideas of others, and express ideas effectively.• Developing a code for personal and civic life as aresponsible citizen in a democracy.• Maintaining good mental and physical health andsocial adjustment.RequirementsA minimum of 18 units with a minimum of 3 units eachin Sections 1, 2, 3, 4a, and 4b.
