UNIT 41: WORKING WITH MEDICATION IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CAREP2 requires learners to describe relevant sections of legislation and guidance withregard to the administration of medicines. Such evidence may have been obtainedthrough the vehicle of small group work, and centres should therefore ensure thatthe evidence presented is entirely that of the learner. For M1 learners need toexplain the effect of legislation and guidelines with regard to medication onorganisational policies and procedures. They therefore need to consider the policiesand procedures in at least one health or social care work setting, and explain howlegislation and guidelines have influenced these. This needs to be extended, for D1,into an evaluation, with learners considering strengths of the legislation andguidelines as well as any potential limitations. Again, learners should draw uponexamples from their work placement experiences if possible.Evidence for P3, P4 and P5 could also be presented in the form of pieces of writing,drawing on examples from health and social care settings as far as possible. Casestudies could again be used to supplement this evidence. M2 extends P5, requiringlearners to explain the role of safe practices in the administration and storage ofmedicines in terms of outcomes for individuals. They need to consider a range ofpossible outcomes, including the health, wellbeing and safety of the individual aswell as aspects such as consent and the importance of effective communication. Thisneeds to be extended for D2 into an evaluation, with strengths and possibleweaknesses being considered.
