Thepromotion of equality and the rights of individuals is crucial for effectiveness inhealth and social care service provision, particularly as patients/service users may bedisadvantaged and disenfranchised.This unit investigates how equality, diversity and rights are central to the effectiveoperation of health and social care services. It explores discriminatory practice andits potential effects on patients/service users, the promotion of anti-discriminatorypractice by, for example, legislation and codes of practice, and the application ofthis to the health or social care workplace.The knowledge and skills gained from this unit will underpin many of the other unitsin the qualification. In particular it is essential in the preparation of learners for theirperiod of work experience.
