UNIT 22: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL CAREThis unit should also enable learners to gain some of the underpinning knowledge forthe following units of the Level 3 NVQ in Health:• Unit GEN12: Reflect on and evaluate your own values, priorities, interestsand effectiveness• Unit GEN13: Synthesise new knowledge into the development of your ownpractice.Additionally, learners should gain some of the underpinning knowledge for thefollowing core dimensions of the NHS Knowledge and Skills Framework:• Core dimension 1: Communication — Develop and maintain communication withpeople about difficult matters and/or in difficult situations• Core dimension 2: Personal and people development — Develop oneself andcontribute to the development of others• Core dimension 3: Health, safety and security — Promote, monitor andmaintain best practice in health, safety and security• Core dimension 6: Equality and diversity — Promote equality and valuediversity.The unit also provides opportunities for the production of evidence towards theLevel 3 key skills in application of number, communication, information andcommunication technology, improving own learning and performance and workingwith others.Social, cultural, spiritual, moral and ethical issues can be introduced through theteaching of this unit, through the research tasks.Essential resourcesThe following resources are considered essential for the delivery of this unit:• an appropriately qualified tutor• people/day-to-day interactions eg school/college or local counsellors, specialneed tutors, project workers, speech therapists, psychologists, social workers• library resources with key texts and other reference materials• a range of appropriate journals from the fields of health and social care.304BN018467 – Specification – Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Nationals in Health and Social Care– Issue 1 – February 2007 © Edexcel Limited 2007
