It also provides anintroduction to the sensitive issue of the risks of abuse to children and young people,the strategies that can minimise the risk of such abuse occurring, and how to handlesituations of suspected abuse.Learners will initially explore potential reasons for children and young peopleneeding to be looked after, the different types of care available, and a variety ofrelevant organisations. They will then examine the risks to children and young peopleof abusive and exploitative behaviour, and the strategies to minimise risks.The unit has been developed with reference to the NVQ in Health and Social Care atLevel 3, and provides the underpinning knowledge for the National OccupationalStandards Unit HSC34: Promote the wellbeing and protection of children and youngpeople.
