State Championship Meet at Lunenburg High School. Algonquincame in second to a strong Nashoba Regional High SchoolTeam. Algonquin’s team hopes to build on its strength and experienceto field a competitive team that demonstrates that inclusionof individuals regardless of ability in all aspects ofschool life is the new normal.This year the team is looking to increase the number of participantswhile maintaining a 50/50 ratio of students with andwithout intellectual or developmental differences. All teammembers train side-by-side with each other practicing sprinting,jumping, and throwing events. Coached, by Kevin Hausmann,an Algonquin science teacher, the team is looking forvolunteer assistant coaches with or without prior coaching experienceto help the team build on its success.Student leaders include Lexie Koziel (ARHS, 2015) LindsayBertonazzi (ARHS, 2013), Clara Anderson (ARHS, post graduate),Kevin Neil (WHS, 2013) and Nishant Joshi (WHS, 2013).Students will be organizing a fundraiser and be planning an “R-Word” Awareness Week” held in March together with theWHS and ARHS chapters of Best Buddies.Thank for your dedication and support of all Algonquin students and programs.Best BuddiesOn Friday night, March 1, Algonquin’s Best BuddiesChapter sponsored their Annual Best BuddiesFriendship Ball. Our Chapter President, Ellie McDonaldand her officers spent months planning a funfilled night and making decorations. Best Buddiesfrom area schools had been invited to join us for anight of music by one of Algonquin’s own DJ’s fordancing. We also had an assortment of deliciousfoods including gluten-free items, many of whichwere donated by local businesses. Our attendees hadthe opportunity to have their pictures taken with theirfriends under the beautifully decorated archway.
