The focus <strong>of</strong> these tech seminars was how to navigatean IPad. CAP will continue these tech seminars at the respective Senior Centersevery other week. Seth Czarnecki, English Teacher, was the impresario <strong>of</strong> thisannual event.Algonquin Regional High School’s SADD chapter is pleased to host the “Driveto Save Lives” Tour for parents <strong>and</strong> students featuring Kathi <strong>and</strong> Chris Sullivanon Tuesday, <strong>March</strong> 26 at 7 pm. The parent presentation will include locallaw enforcement as well as the speakers <strong>and</strong> is designed to help parentsunderst<strong>and</strong> the issues their children are faced with <strong>and</strong> provide tools for bothstudents <strong>and</strong> parents to use to make safe choices. Parents <strong>and</strong> students <strong>of</strong> allgrades are welcome to attend.To help student make better decisions, SADD is sponsoring a video contestpromoting safe choices. Students can create public service announcementsshowing how reckless driving <strong>and</strong>/or decisions are dangerous while involvingmessages about peer pressure. The winners <strong>of</strong> the contest will be unveiled atthe parent night <strong>and</strong> presented with prizes including a free limousine for a nightalong with other cash prizes. Indoortrack had many stars, including Joe Breen’s 8th place finish in the State meet,the 7th place finish <strong>of</strong> the 4x200 relay (Stephen Roy, Shane Duffy, Davis <strong>and</strong>Colin Kraft) setting a new school record <strong>of</strong> 1:33.03, <strong>and</strong> snagging an invitationto the New Engl<strong>and</strong> championships. The girls 4x200 team (Serena Hooker, GabyDiGiovanni, Haley Hughes, <strong>and</strong> Brenna Stewart) have also been invited tothe New Engl<strong>and</strong>s.In wrestling, sectional placers included Alex Mazzola (1st), Christian Saccone(2nd), Joe Cozzolino (2nd), James Officer (3rd), Austin Roche (4th), NateMorrell (5th), David Wrin (6th), <strong>and</strong> Sam Schick (6th). The team placed 5thout <strong>of</strong> 12 teams in the event. In the state tournament, Mazzola (2nd), Cozzolino(6th), <strong>and</strong> Saccone (7th) did well.Junior ClassClass <strong>of</strong> 2014The first half <strong>of</strong> our Junior Year hasbeen great! Earlier in the year, wehosted the “Variety Show” - whichwas a huge success! In only its second year, Algonquinis one <strong>of</strong> only twelve schools in the state with a Unified Track Team.Funded through a grant by the Special Olympics <strong>of</strong> Massachusetts(SOMA) in conjunction with the Algonquin Athletic Dept togetherwith local businesses <strong>and</strong> private donations, Unified Track <strong>and</strong> Fieldis a varsity sport which includes individuals <strong>of</strong> all developmental abilities.Every Algonquin student has a chance to represent his or school,enjoy the camaraderie <strong>of</strong> being on a team, <strong>and</strong> challenge themselvesindividually to grow as an athlete <strong>and</strong> as a person.However, this is the last year <strong>of</strong> grant funding from Special Olympicsfor the ARHS school team.Last year over 25 students from Algonquin (together with WestboroughHigh School) practiced <strong>and</strong> competed against eight otherschools.
