the beatFebruary <strong>2013</strong>Newsletter <strong>of</strong> the Northboro Southboro Music AssociationElizabeth Wig is a sophomore trumpet player, pianist <strong>and</strong> a newly inducted member <strong>of</strong> Tri-M. Sheis promoting music by mentoring an 8 th grade trumpet player from Melican Middle School afterschool.She currently plays in Symphonic B<strong>and</strong>, <strong>and</strong> although she has a quiet demeanor, herpresence in the trumpet section is that <strong>of</strong> a leader. Her positive attitude is respected among themusic faculty.Andrew Hamilton is a senior vocalist <strong>and</strong> instrumentalist. He sings bass <strong>and</strong> is a featured soloist inthe Chamber Singers <strong>and</strong> Concert Choir. He plays clarinet in the Wind Ensemble. In addition, he ispresident <strong>of</strong> Algonquin’s Tri-M chapter. Andy’s willingness to pitch in wherever needed helps tostrengthen our music curriculum. This past fall, when Andy discovered there was a need for asousaphone player in the <strong>March</strong>ing B<strong>and</strong> - he donned the uniform <strong>and</strong> answered the call <strong>of</strong> duty!>The Algonquin music faculty selects students based oncharacter, commitment, support <strong>of</strong> their fellow musicians<strong>and</strong> their contributions to the music community. We arevery fortunate to have so many students to highlight <strong>and</strong>look forward to selecting more students in the comingmonths.<strong>and</strong> the beat goes on . . .
