Working from the core to thefurthest edge of the network, the system provides an enhanced levelof traffic identification and prioritization.The core Tellabs 1100 MSAP series architecture that houses theOptical Line Terminals (OLT) for Gigabit Passive Optical Networks(GPON) utilizes a native Ethernet switching infrastructure with networkside interfaces terminating on the Ethernet Switching Unit (ESU). TheESU features a standard Ethernet switch design with extensions toadd security and management appropriate for a public network.The ESU operates as a L2/L3 Ethernet switch and provides L3filtering and visibility.
