Some records show Thomas W. and others show William T. (1880 census). It wouldseem he was probably named William Thomas Williams; but, as he matured, he changedthe name to Thomas William Williams, going by "Tom" or by the initials "T. W." Hewas also called Squire Tom Williams. Family tradition is that he was a magistrate and aschool teacher. Elbert died as a result of a mining accident on April 3, 1921, atCranberry, Raleigh County. Elbert married Leota Matilda Frances Dickens, born May30, 1886, at Mattsville (Sandlick), Raleigh County. Leota died on September 27, 1971, atProsperity, Raleigh County. They were married December 14, 1904, at Mattsville,Raleigh County. Leota was the daughter of John Henry "Long John" Dickens Jr. andMary Jane (Turner) Dickens.9
