20 Sorin FRUNZĂVERDE Sorin Frunzăverde (born 26 April 1960) is First vice-chairman of the Democratic-Liberal Party and elected president of the Caraş-Severin County Council. He is a former Member of the European Parliament, where he was the Head of the Romanian delegation to the EPP, vice-chairman of the Subcommittee on Security and Defence, member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. Within the European Parliament, he was involved in the EU-Western Balkans dialogue, acting as a member in the Delegation for relations with the countries of south-east Europe and the Delegation to the EU- Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Joint Parliamentary Committee. Sorin Frunzăverde has twice served as Minister of National Defense (2000 and 2006). He was also Minister of Environment (December 1997-February 1998) and Minister of Tourism (April-December 1998). In 2000, he was elected Member of the Parliament for the Caraş-Severin region and worked on foreign affairs and defence related issues. After having graduated from the Metallurgy Department of the Polytechnic Institute in Bucharest, he pursued economic and military studies, receiving a PhD title in both disciplines and a „magna cum laude” distinction from the Romanian Defence University. He has published a series of articles and books on security and European integration topics. Sorin Frunzăverde is a Romanian political figure, among the leaders of the Democratic-Liberal Party, founder of Caraş-Severin party branch from the very beginning of the Democratic Party’s creation in 1990. His work in the international relations department of the party became acknowledged when, in 2005, the party became a full member of the EPP family. Ranier FSADNI Ranier Fsadni is Advisor to the Prime Minister of Malta on Mediterranean and Maritime Affairs. He teaches social and cultural anthropology at the University of Malta with special reference to the Mediterranean and the Arab world. He is a member of the Editorial Working Group of the Journal of Mediterranean Studies and a reviewer for the Mediterranean Journal of Human Rights. As Chairman of the Academy for the Development of a Democratic Environment (AZAD), he has been involved in EIN activities since 2004. He serves as an expert member of the Maritime Task Force of the European Commission and has also recently contributed to a draft report on maritime governance for DG Mare. European Ideas Network
