6 Annual Report 2010-11Prioritiesfor 2011/12Goretti Guasch Executive DirectorINC’s priorities for 2011/2012 will continue to be dominated by the widerangingdebates around scientific and regulatory issues, food safety,nutrition and health. The INC promotional actions will include those toprovide a platform to the nut and dried fruit industry to interact, shareinformation and develop consistent approaches to risk issues.We will work to reach these goals by addressing strategic actions towardsscientific and government affairs, taking into account the provisions andmeasures laid by the Codex Alimentarius, WHO, WTO, FAO, UNECE,EFSA, and USDA, and regarding key aspects such as agricultural qualitystandards, food safety, testing procedures, trade barriers, shipping andtransportation, and health claims.The World Nut and Dried Fruit Congress is the international platform forthe nut and dried fruit industry to discuss high-priority issues and keychallenges. Following the all-time record participation in Beijing, next yearwe are coming back to Asia, one of the most promising and emergingmarkets in the food sector.The INC also takes part in international scientific and medical congresses,where scientists, health professionals and researchers around the worldlearn about the latest findings and developments in the fields of health andnutrition with regard to nut and dried fruit consumption, which spreadsout their benefits and provides an overall benefit for the sector. In linewith this strategy of promoting the health benefits of nuts and dried fruitsworldwide, we are publishing the supplement “Metabolic Healthy Effectsof Nuts” in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Disease,one of the most prestigious journals in the field of medicine.A special focus has been set with the MycoRed project “Novel integratedstrategies for worldwide mycotoxin reduction in food and feed chains”,a large cooperative project funded by the European Union within theFP7 Food, Agriculture and Biotechnologies Work Program. The projectaims to develop strategic solutions to reduce mycotoxin contaminationin important food and feed chains, and to support education andcooperation with countries that endure major mycotoxin concerns. Theproject includes the release of a training video for mycotoxin sampling, aneconomic evaluation of the impact of mycotoxin contamination, and theAnnual Report of the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed.INC’s UN Program, Database and Global Statistical Review are alsoexamples of our commitment to promote activities and provide tools tosupport the development of our industry.

Annual Report 2010-117NewInc HomeThe INC plans to open the doors to its new headquarters in Barcelona-Reus in 2013, on a 4,500 square meters site in the new Technology Park.Strategically located next to the airport and major universities and teachingresearch hospitals, the new INC home is part of the future Techno Park,an international cluster of health and nutrition research. The park offersup to 50,000 square meters of infrastructural development in severalcategories, such as healthcare, nutrition, pharmaceutics, and agriculture.The new INC Headquarters involve a 2,500 square meters Arboretum ofnut and fruit trees, a place for visitors to observe and study a variety oftrees, including 12 species (4-5 trees per specie), in collaboration with theInstitute for Food and Agricultural Research and Technology (IRTA).Over 35 Sponsors have already signed on to support the New INC Homewith donations for a brick to be placed at the entrance to the new offices.The INC extends a very big and heartfelt thank you to the companieswhose sponsorship will make the New INC Home possible.
