In fact, of2006-07 reporting member institutions of the Council forChristian Colleges & Universities, SNU ranks among thetop 20 percent of most affordable schools. In addition,cost comparisons between SNU and large state schoolsshow that cost of tuition at SNU is higher, but cost ofliving in terms of room and board are surprisingly andsignificantly less and, in some cases, offset the difference.To help reduce costs, the <strong>University</strong>, through the FinancialAssistance Office, provides assistance to students whomay qualify for grants, scholarships, or loans. Morethan 80 percent of SNU students receive some form offinancial assistance. During the 2006-07 school year,scholarships totaled more than $6.2 million. Academicscholarships are awarded by SNU to incoming freshmenbased on their ACT or SAT scores or the National MeritScholar Program. Other general scholarships are availableas well by departments.Other types of financial assistance include federal andstate grants, student and parent loans and alternativeloans. Various campus and local community employmentopportunities are available by applying for the FederalWork-Study program. Other sources of assistance includecivic groups, private foundations and corporations.HOUSING – WITHIN THE DORMSNU campus residences (Hatley and Garey for women;Snowbarger and Bracken for men; Asbury Apartments,Chapman Apartments, and Imel Townhouse for upperclassmen and women) are staffed by a resident directorand student resident advisors who provide leadership,administration, community development activities andparaprofessional counseling to residential students.Chapman Apartments, Asbury Apartments and ImelTownhouse provide housing for eligible single students(academic and citizenship eligibility). Chapman Apartmentsalso house married students who desire to live on campus.INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS –WITHIN THE STORMAs a member of the National Association of IntercollegiateAthletics (NAIA) and a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference,SNU boasts one of the elite athletics programs inthe nation. The Crimson Storm has accounted for numerousnational championships, including the women’s golf programin 1999 and 2002; the NAIA-record seventh title forwomen’s basketball in March 2004; plus the Distance MedleyRelay Team Individual National Championship in IndoorTrack & Field in 2004.
