2012-2013 <strong>Catalog</strong> 29Transferring Courses Within Degree ProgramsTo facilitate the transfer of courses within certain degree programs, <strong>New</strong><strong>Mexico</strong> colleges and universities have collaborated to develop transferablediscipline modules. These are made up of an agreed-upon number of hoursand courses. When discipline module courses are taken in addition to the35-hour general education core, the total number of hours in a transfermodule are approximately 64.Student Responsibility<strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong>’s colleges and universities have collaborated to produce guidesto assist students who plan to transfer before completing a program of study.Course modules are designed to help students select courses carefully sothat they may transfer with little or no loss of credit. However, planningfor effective transfer with maximum efficiency is ultimately the student’sresponsibility. Responsible transfer planning includes early and regular consultationwith the intended degree-granting institution to assure that all pretransfercourse work will meet the requirement of the desired degree.Complaint Procedure for Transfer Credit AppealAll <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> public postsecondary institutions are required to establishpolicies and practices for receiving and resolving complaints from studentsor from other complainants regarding the transfer of course work from otherpublic institutions in the state. A copy of NMSU’s complaint policy may beobtained from the Office of the Registrar or from the Deputy Secretary forAcademic Affairs, Higher Education Department, <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> School forthe Deaf Campus, 1068 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> 87505-1650.Applying <strong>DACC</strong> Degrees and Credit Toward Bachelor’sDegree ProgramsMany <strong>DACC</strong> courses may be accepted at NMSU and other universities.When planning to apply <strong>DACC</strong> credits toward a bachelor’s degree program,it is best to consult with advisors at both <strong>DACC</strong> and the university that hasbeen selected for continued study.Articulated Programs of StudyA <strong>DACC</strong> program is said to be “articulated” when, with adequate planning,most or all of the credits earned in the <strong>DACC</strong> program may be used to satisfydegree requirements for a baccalaureate degree at another institution.Articulation plans have been developed for the following <strong>DACC</strong> programs:• Associate of Arts Degree to the NMSU <strong>College</strong> of Arts and Sciences• Associate of Science Degree to the NMSU <strong>College</strong> of Arts and Sciences• Creative Media Technology to the NMSU <strong>College</strong> of Arts and Sciences• Criminal Justice to the Department of Criminal Justice in the NMSU<strong>College</strong> of Arts and Sciences• Early Childhood Education and Education programs to the NMSU <strong>College</strong>of Education• Pre-Architecture to the UNM School of Architecture and Planning andTexas Tech University• Pre-Business to the NMSU <strong>College</strong> of Business• Hospitality Services Management to the Department of Hotel, Restaurantand Tourism Management in the NMSU <strong>College</strong> of Agricultural,Consumer and Environmental Sciences• Public Health to the Department of Health Science, NMSU <strong>College</strong> ofHealth and Social Services• Computer- and technology-related associate degree programs to theNMSU Information and Communication Technology bachelor’s degreeprogram in the Engineering Technology Department, <strong>College</strong> of Engineering• Computer- and technology-related associate degree programs to programsleading to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Operations Managementand Supervision and the Bachelor of Applied Science in Careerand Technical Teacher Education at Western <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> University• Any associate degree earned at <strong>DACC</strong> may be applied in its entiretytoward the Bachelor of Applied Studies or Bachelor of IndividualizedStudies degrees offered by NMSU’s <strong>College</strong> of Extended LearningPartially Articulated ProgramsA majority of the credits earned in the following associate degree programsat <strong>DACC</strong> will apply toward meeting bachelor’s degree requirements of specifieddepartments at NMSU:• Business Management to the Department of Agricultural Economics andAgricultural Business in the <strong>College</strong> of Agricultural, Consumer and EnvironmentalSciences• Electronics Technology to the Department of Engineering Technologyin the NMSU <strong>College</strong> of Engineering• Any associate degree in allied health to the Department of Health Sciencein the <strong>College</strong> of Health and Social Services• Hospitality and Tourism to the Hospitality, Restaurant, and TourismManagement Department, <strong>College</strong> of Agricultural, Consumer and EnvironmentalSciences• Nursing to the Department of Nursing, <strong>College</strong> of Health and SocialServices• Technical and Industrial Studies programs. Those planning to teach atthe secondary level may apply between 18 and 32 credits of technicalsubject matter earned in the following <strong>DACC</strong> programs toward the technologyteaching licensure program offered within the bachelor of sciencedegree program in Agricultural and Extension Education (<strong>College</strong>of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences): Automation andManufacturing Technology; Automotive Technology; Building ConstructionTechnology; Computer and Information Technology; Creative MediaTechnology; Drafting and Design Technologies; Electrical Apprenticeship;Electronics Technology; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning andRefrigeration; Water Technology; Welding Technology; and the Associateof General Studies program.NOTE: Students who plan to transfer to another institution should alwaysconsult that institution’s catalog for the most current information.
