The 6,200-square-foot center offers freshman- andsophomore-level coursework, including dual-credit courses for high schoolstudents. It also is the site of the Adult Basic Education program in Chaparral.Refer to the section titled “Adult Basic Education” in this catalog for afull listing of services.Mesquite NeighborhoodLearning Center890 N. Tornillo St., Las Cruces (map appears on page 21)575-528-4051The center was initially funded by a grant from the U.S. Department ofHousing and Urban Development in 2000, and later through a secondHUD Hispanic Serving Institutions—Assisting Communities grant. Currentlyfunded by a grant from <strong>New</strong> <strong>Mexico</strong> Works, and a third HUD HispanicServing Institutions—Assisting Communities grant, the Mesquite NeighborhoodLearning Center brings education to those who otherwise might nothave access to it.The center’s focus is on providing low-income students with the knowledgenecessary to obtain a higher education, while developing work-relatedskills. Transitional classes and workshops involving work-readiness skillsand college preparation allow students to eventually move on to collegeand careers. GED and ESL classes are offered on site through <strong>DACC</strong>’s AdultBasic Education Division.The center also seeks to establish relationships between students and thecenter’s partners throughout the community. Numerous community agenciesand businesses have partnered with Mesquite Neighborhood LearningCenter and the City of Las Cruces to provide health care, counselingservices, job-readiness activities, legal assistance, computer literacy, childcare, and many other services.Developmental education courses are the latest addition to the center’s offerings.South County CampusesGadsden Campus1700 E. (map on page 21)575-874-7780The two south county campuses offer freshman- and sophomore-levelcoursework in vocational, technical, developmental, and general education,as well as the Associate of Arts, Associate of Criminal Justice, andAssociate of Pre-Business degrees. The campuses also provide concurrentenrollment (dual credit) programming for the Gadsden School District.ESL, GED, and citizenship classes for the border area are available throughthe ABE program, also housed at the campuses. Refer to the section titled,“Adult Basic Education,” in this catalog for a full listing of services.Attending the Gadsden Campus or the Sunland Park Campus is the equivalentto attending one of the Las Cruces campuses of <strong>DACC</strong>. Tuition is thesame, applications are accepted throughout the year, and the COMPASSassessment (for placement in classes) is offered on-site virtually every weekday.Students attending the Gadsden Campus or the Sunland Park Campus mayattend classes at any other <strong>DACC</strong> campus, NMSU’s Las Cruces campus, orother NMSU campuses, without completing additional admissions procedures.Students may attend one or more campuses simultaneously; however,the total credit-hour load may not exceed that stipulated by the normalclass-load policy.Student ServicesAll students currently attending, or planning to attend, one of the southcounty campuses also may use the student services available at either of theDoña <strong>Ana</strong> <strong>Community</strong> <strong>College</strong> campuses in Las Cruces. An advisor is availableat the south county campuses to advise students as they make career,program, and scheduling choices. <strong>DACC</strong> students may also take advantageof tutoring services at either or both locations.Academic RegulationsAll NMSU academic regulations apply to students attending a southcounty center. Please refer to the “Academic Regulations” section inthe front of this catalog, or the current NMSU Undergraduate <strong>Catalog</strong>.
