MEETING OF MIDWESTERN COUNCIL BOARDS – May 14, 2009Regular Executive and Contest Boards meeting, Sam’s Ristorante, Rockford IL. President Cassaro called themeeting to order at 8:05 PM. It was ascertained that a quorum was present. All officers were present and clubsrepresented as follows: CSCC ‐ Weis; FTR – S.Green; GLSCC – Schley, Kannard; LSCC – Martin, Harlan; MSCC –Anderson, Jackson; NSSCC – Saccameno, Serra; SCSCC – Lewis, Cromas; SCCR – Rehberg, White. M(Schley) &2(Kannard) to approve the minutes of the April meeting as printed. Pass.Treasurer’s Report: The Apr. School may have made a little money. All income is in with no bill from thesponsoring club yet. There are 667 paid members. M(Serra) & 2(Saccameno) to approve report as printed. Pass.Wheeler noted that drivers participating in both MC and SCCA schools were of the opinion that the MC on‐trackschool is better but doing the MC paperwork is non‐user‐friendly. J.Boldt noted that MC is volunteer organizationand has no paid employees to expedite membership and other paperwork.OLD BUSINESS‣ BFR New Concessions: All went well at the 1 st event. Concessions people don’t handle Sat. night parties orprovide items such as plates etc. for them. Clubs must clean up their own parties afterward.NEW BUSINESS‣ Electronic Entries: Clubs must send their documents to Cassaro well ahead of their event to be put onmyAutoEvents.‣ Safety & Rescue: Pobgee mentioned that clubs need to contact him ahead of time if they need his truckfor non‐BFR events and he needs gas money up front to get the truck there.COMPETITIONOLD BUSINESS‣ Autocross Committee Report: No reps present – there is nothing new.‣ Race Staff Committee Report: No committee, no chief. We have a wonderful race staff and need a leader!‣ Steward Committee Report: A race specialty sign‐in sheet has been developed and will become part of racereports.‣ The Steward manual is on the steward forum as is the 1 st race report. Stewards should access the forumregularly. The NS Autobahn event is on myAutoEvents, and there will be a chase race on that date. Clubs needto send their reps to these meetings. Next one is Fri., July 17 at Backyard Bar & Grill in Roscoe at 8 PM.‣ Minor Participation: Last meeting a minor was approved to participate in the first w‐w event without driverschool attendance, which is required by the rules. He did not show up at the 1 st race. A different minor withsimilar qualifications showed up to run the race, and since there were no minutes of the April meeting to referto, it was not clear if the ruling could apply to another driver or just the original one in the motion. A specialmeeting took place to allow the second driver to participate. He performed well, so he will be allowed toparticipate in other MC w‐w events. There was much controversy over the issue.‣ April Race: Weather was cold and rainy. Much credit is due to drivers and staff who braved the elements.NEW BUSINESS‣ First Race: A driver entering the school for track time holding a NASA license drove over‐aggressively afterbeing cautioned that at a driver school such behavior is inappropriate. He then was involved in a seriousincident. It was discovered that his NASA license has been revoked. There is no way to learn if a driver’scompetition license from other organizations has been revoked, as the other licensing bodies will not share onthis matter. M(Jackson) & 2(J.Boldt) that Matt King be banned from MC events for life. Tabled for moreinformation. Wheeler will invite him to attend the June meeting. Jackson is the steward of the next event, which occurs before then, so he will refuse the driver’s entry should he enter, as is the steward’s prerogative.Todd Utter was injured while setting out cones the Friday evening before the school; he is recovering. It wasnoted that an individual’s insurance is his primary coverage. If he has no insurance, the event insurance isprimary. At another sanctioning body’s event this year a driver collided with a turkey flying over the track and wasseriously injured.M(P.Green) & 2(several) to adjourn at 9:55. Minutes taken and transcribed by S.Boldt.

My cat, the terroristStory by Hal AdkinsI used to live in the country and owned a dog and a few cats. Actually you never reallyown a cat; you are just a large annoyance they put up with because you feed them.Originally there was one cat that wandered onto the place, a pretty cat it was with one blueeye and one yellow. And female as the one cat, before very long, turned into the abovementioned few, as cats will do.I ended up just calling her Mother Cat. She was well fed and taken care of, although I’msure being a typical cat she would dispute this, even as she munched on a fine gourmetselection of “Whatever Is On Sale Cat Food.”One spring day I noticed she was slowly crawling out on a tree limb about 10 feet off theground. She was making her way toward a robin’s nest with baby birds in occupation.Mother Cat had become a bird terrorist. It’s a cat thing, apparently.I was more liberal back then, so I figured the best thing to do is to go talk to, yes I said gotalk to the cat. I climbed the tree to the Branch of Bird Terror, slid out a few feet andtapped her on the back. I may have said something like, “Excuse me, we need to talk.” Sheturned around with a calm yet bemused, “Why is he bothering me when I have somethingto kill” look and laid down on the limb, no doubt annoyed that I was going to make her latefor her dinner date with the robin’s family. So there I was on a 10-foot high limb attempting to reason and negotiate with an animalwhose idea of fun is chasing mice and hacking up fur balls.I explained to her she had no reason going after those innocent birds as she was well fed,and I felt she was just doing this for the thrill of killing and whatever vendetta, real orimagined, she had against birds. She should just come on down from the branch, let themlive in peace and not leave them in pieces, and if she did I would give her some of thosenice stinky cat treats she liked, or money. She seemed to listen patiently and intently, so in my liberal and therefore mostly illogicalmind at the time, I assumed I had made my point, and she would call off the attack andvacate the tree. As I was sliding back down the limb, she calmly turned around and headedback toward the nest. At this point, I reach out and gave her a good liberal swat thatpropelled her maybe 15 feet away from the tree. I think I might have called out her name orsome variation of it right before hand met fur.Factoring in the height of the branch and the horizontal arc, I make it near 30 feet offloundering feline flight. And it is true what they say about a cat flying though the air; theyindeed almost always hit the ground. So much for trying to reason and negotiate with someone/something bent on terrorizingand killing, for whatever reason. I think perhaps certain members of the currentadministration and Congress could learn a lot from the above story as it relates to theirapproach in dealing with terrorist and other sub-human animals worldwide who clearlyneed to be swatted out of existence. How about chasing this bunch of politicians — whoare more disposed to apologizing to the evil people of this world than stopping them — upa really big tree occupied by a gaggle of rabid terrorist types looking to have some fun andsee if they could reason and negotiate their way safely back down before the guns andknives and fur balls came out. Or the voters chopped down the tree.Sharpen your axes.Short Thought: What wouldn’t you do to keep your family safe and alive?Hal Adkins resides in LaMoille. He can be reached at halaphoto@live.com.
