Guidelines for Using Shells.Modular construction ofValencia allows desk, return, and credenza shells to bereconfigured in the field.19"D25"DShells consist of a worksurface, back panel, or endpanel. Pedestals may beadded to shells, but thedepth of the pedestal mustnever be greater than theworksurface.Quick-lock assemblyhardware is used toassemble shells in the field. The hardware featurespins in the underside of theworksurface that arecaptured by rotatingconnector locks in the endpanels and back panels.Pedestals can be attachedtwo in a row on 45"W, 60"W,65"W, 70"W, or 75"W worksurfaces,or three in a rowon 70"W, 75"W, or 90"Wworksurfaces..Pedestals on deskshells can be movedfrom one side to theother. Additional modularpedestals can be addedor deleted.Shells accommodate fieldinstalledpedestals andprovide a way to create yourown configuration when anassembly doesn’t meet yourneeds. Pedestals can beadded or removed at anytime, and they can be shiftedfrom side to side.Pedestals on returnshells can be relocatedfrom one side to the other, thereby changing thehanding of the return. Theend panel must berepositioned to the pedestalside and reconnected.Pedestals onkneespace credenzashells can be moved fromone side to the other.Pedestals can be installednext to each other orseparated.3 /4-height back panels3 /4-heightpedestalFull-heightpedestalFull-height back panels3 /4-heightpedestalFull-heightpedestalCombine pedestals withappropriate back panels. 3 ⁄4-height pedestals can beused with either 3 ⁄4-height orfull-height back panels. Butfull-height pedestals canonly be used with full-heightback panels..Calculating how muchstorage will fit under aValencia worksurface is athree-step process:Step 1: Determine theactual overall width of theworksurface.cDesk shells, page 347cReturn shells, page 349cCredenza shells, page 350Step 2: Subtract 1 1 ⁄4"for each end support. Ondesks and credenzas you’llsubtract 2 1 ⁄2" because theyhave two end panels. Onreturns, subtract 1 1 ⁄4"because they have onlyone end panel.Step 3: Choose thestorage components. Anycombination of pedestalsand lateral files that doesn’texceed the space availablewill fit.60" – 2 1 /2" = 57 1 /2"15 3 /8" + 15 3 /8" = 30 3 /4"Example: A 60"W deskshell has two end panels, soyou should subtract 2 1 ⁄2". Theresult is 57 1 ⁄2". Two 15 3 ⁄8"Wpedestals will fit. The pedestalswill measure 30 3 ⁄4" sothe remaining kneespacewill be 26 3 ⁄4". Any othercombinations that don’texceed 57 1 ⁄2" will also fit.Full-storage credenzaswithout kneespacecannot be built up fromcomponents in the field. They must be ordered asassemblies.cSee page 304.The pedestals and doubledoorcabinet of a full-storagecredenza assembly can stillbe rearranged in the field....308 Transitional Specification Guide
