Concordia Language Villages TripThe weekend of <strong>May</strong> 9-12, <strong>2013</strong>, 30 students from Shattuck and one student fromNHS took a long bus ride to Bemidji, Minnesota for a language immersion weekend atConcordia Language Villages. The students were accompanied by French teacherAngela VerVoort and Spanish teachers Katherine Conor and Crystal Hietpas. SelidaBelling, Anthony Clohessy, Jaden Cook, Nina Duffeck, Alex Engemann, Katie Fieldhack,Emmalee Helms, Ben Keach, Megan Last, Julie Latreille, Bradley Lewandowski, LeaLindsley, Rylee Mory, Justin Murie, Braden Palmer, Nicole Reitzner, Emily Salm, MorganSchreck, and Jack Welsh were the Spanish participants. Noah Bauer, JacquelineBeran, Ellie Callahan, Giselle Gaytan, David Gonzalez, Callie Hauerwas, MitchellPamperin, Jacob Porto, Mae Ueda, Nora Vanesky, and Anna Wright were the Frenchparticipants. The Village weekends are cultural immersion experiences designed toenhance classroom language and global perspective learning. During the programs,students have the opportunity to converse with native speakers of the targetlanguage, further their global awareness through other people's perspectives, learnthe culture's songs and dances, make crafts, and eat culturally authentic foods.Village weekends provide a fun and exciting immersion experience for students.Students' understanding improves dramatically during a Village weekend and rekindlesthe excitement of language learning. Language and culture come to life throughauthentic games, arts, sports, traditions, music, food, and native staff.


Road PTO. Students sang about kindness, literacy, music, and fun. The Roadrunnersbig and small enjoyed the special time to learn, smile, and sing.WLUK Fox11 Best of the ClassWLUK Fox 11 honored top-graduating students for the 13th consecutive year with theBest of the Class community service project which recognizes graduating high schoolachievers. The top students in their graduating classes joined Fox 11 at the LambeauField Atrium in Green Bay on Wednesday, <strong>May</strong> 22, for a ceremony and videotaping fora series of television vignettes that will be broadcast on Fox 11 during <strong>May</strong>, June, andJuly <strong>2013</strong> and on the Internet at fox11online.com. The Green Bay Packers, along withother businesses and colleges, sponsor the <strong>2013</strong> Best of the Class event. Studentsreceived a welcome from the sponsors, the General Manager of WLUK Fox 11, and arepresentative of the Green Bay Packers. Fox 11’s Tom Milbourn and Michelle Melbyemceed the ceremony. Other Fox 11 anchors, sports personalities, and meteorologistswere on hand and students had the opportunity to view legendary Lambeau Field.Last year, Fox 11 honored over 300 students. Congratulations go out to AndreaDevereaux, Sarah Smaby, Ben Zerrien, Kirk Lancaster, Andrew Elbe, Kyle Kumbier,Claire Knaus, Marissa Franke, Haley Quandt, and Jeshanah Zolkowski!


Tullar Students Learn to Bike SafelyTullar's fifth grade bike rodeo was held on Thursday, <strong>May</strong> 16, in the Faith Churchparking lot. Stations included bike signals, stopping and starting, turning, riding aroundobstacles, and maneuvering around cones. Jim Kluge from <strong>Neenah</strong> Park and Recreationcoordinates the bike rodeo with the help of Tullar parent volunteers. Cranked BikeShop from downtown <strong>Neenah</strong> had bike mechanics on hand to inflate tires, checkbrakes, and make sure that bikes were working properly. <strong>Neenah</strong> Police Departmentwas also on hand to issue licenses for bicycles and ensure helmets fit correctly.Thanks to the many people that make this a success so that our Tigers have a safe,fun summer of riding!
