16 • <strong>2002</strong> TURKISH AIRLINES annual reportFlight Network – ScheduleStructurePristina flights were launched on April15, <strong>2002</strong>.During the <strong>2002</strong> Winter Schedule,Kuala Lumpur service was terminated;Hong Kong flights were launched onOctober 28, <strong>2002</strong>.Sivas and Kahramanmarafl serviceswere terminated on January 21, <strong>2002</strong>and March 8, <strong>2002</strong> respectively.Ankara-Samsun-Ankara services wereterminated on March 25, <strong>2002</strong>.Osaka flights, suspended on October28, 2001, were reintroduced onFebruary 8, <strong>2002</strong> with a connection inSeoul.Business Class was introduced onIstanbul-Ankara-Istanbul flights startingfrom September 16, <strong>2002</strong>.Due to runway and apronmaintenance at Ercan Airport, Cyprusflights were redirected to GeçitkaleAirport as of September 10, <strong>2002</strong>.Due to the maintenance at AdanaAirport, the airport was closed to airtraffic between November 4, <strong>2002</strong>and January 13, 2003. All Istanbul-Adana-Istanbul, Ankara-Adana-Ankaraand Adana-Jeddah-Adana flightsbetween those dates were cancelled.Scheduled FlightsIn <strong>2002</strong>, while scheduled domesticflight capacity was reduced by 11.2%and traffic by 5.3% compared to theprevious year, the passenger loadfactor increased to 70.6%, up 4.4points compared to 2001. While atotal of 4.9 million passengers werecarried, a total of 26 thousand tons ofcargo was also transported.Scheduled international flight capacitydropped by 2.6% while trafficincreased by 6.9%, resulting in apassenger load factor of 68.3% by asix point increase. A total of fivemillion passengers were carried whiletotal cargo transport reached 84thousand tons.
