Possibilities <strong>in</strong>clude, among o<strong>the</strong>rs, ad <strong>hoc</strong> or delay-<strong>tolerant</strong> network<strong>in</strong>g.The research field <strong>of</strong> wireless ad <strong>hoc</strong> networks is concerned with <strong>the</strong>oretical andpractical aspects <strong>of</strong> networks among wireless mobile devices without <strong>in</strong>frastructure.<strong>Delay</strong>- and disruption-<strong>tolerant</strong> network<strong>in</strong>g (DTN) is a related field concerned wi<strong>the</strong>xtreme and performance-challenged environments where cont<strong>in</strong>uous end-to-endconnectivity cannot be assumed.PositionThe Communication Systems Group <strong>of</strong>fers a creative environment to conduct researchand to be <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g.This is a post-<strong>doc</strong>toral, grant-funded full-time <strong>position</strong> with a very competitive salary. Thesuccessful candidate has a formal work<strong>in</strong>g contract as ETH Zurich staff member.The responsibilities <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>position</strong> <strong>in</strong>clude, but are not limited to:- Research <strong>in</strong> flow-based network security analysis,- both <strong>in</strong> terms <strong>of</strong>o <strong>the</strong>oretical models and methods, ando practical applications and prototype systems.- Participation <strong>in</strong> academic and <strong>in</strong>dustrial research projects- Acquisition <strong>of</strong> new research projects and fund<strong>in</strong>g- Lead<strong>in</strong>g a group <strong>of</strong> highly motivated Ph.D. students- Participation <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g duties with <strong>the</strong> possibility <strong>of</strong> lectur<strong>in</strong>gPage 1/2


RequirementsWe are look<strong>in</strong>g for an outstand<strong>in</strong>g candidate who is highly motivated to conduct topresearch, participate <strong>in</strong> teach<strong>in</strong>g duties, and lead a group <strong>of</strong> graduate students.Maturity, self-motivation and <strong>the</strong> ability to work both <strong>in</strong>dependently and as a team player<strong>in</strong> local and <strong>in</strong>ternational research teams are expected.The technical requirements are:1. A Ph.D. degree <strong>in</strong> electrical eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, computer science or eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g, or aclosely-related field. Ph.D. students are welcome if <strong>the</strong>y expect to receive <strong>the</strong>irdegree before <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> 2006.2. A track record <strong>in</strong> highly competitive scientific research and publish<strong>in</strong>g atconferences and scientific journals with global impact <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> fields <strong>of</strong> wireless ad<strong>hoc</strong>, or delay- and disruption-<strong>tolerant</strong> network<strong>in</strong>g, or a closely related field.3. Excellent language skills <strong>in</strong> English; German language skills are a plus.ApplicationThe <strong>position</strong> is available immediately.
