5. You also have to be prepared to work, unless this is impossible for health or equityreasons.6. Finally, you also have to exercise your rights to allowances you are entitled to by virtue ofthe Belgian or foreign <strong>social</strong> legislation. The right to <strong>social</strong> integration should be consideredas the very last <strong>social</strong> safety net. When you have really done everything that is in yourpower to acquire an income in some way, e.g. via unemployment benefits or allowancesfor handicapped or other persons, only then you have the right to <strong>social</strong> integration. Youobviously also have to fulfil the other conditions.What rights to <strong>social</strong> integration apply to applicants aged 25 and older?When you are 25 years or older and you satisfy the conditions, you have the right to <strong>social</strong>integration: you will be granted the integration income or the public <strong>social</strong> welfare centre willoffer you a job. The public <strong>social</strong> welfare centre can thus provide work to persons entitled to <strong>social</strong>integration by acting as an employer itself or by looking for an employer or it can reduce thewage costs for employers by paying part of the wages for some forms of employment.The allowance and the maintenance of the integration income may be complemented by anindividualised <strong>social</strong> integration project, on request of the person concerned or the public<strong>social</strong> welfare centre. Depending on the needs of the person concerned, this project will befocused on professional mobilisation or <strong>social</strong> integration.What rights to <strong>social</strong> integration apply to applicants under the age of 25?When you are younger than 25 years and you satisfy the conditions, you have the right to <strong>social</strong>integration, in the first place by employment adapted to your personal situation and capacities,within 3 months after your application. The employment will either consist in an employmentcontract or an individualised project for <strong>social</strong> integration leading to an employment contractwithin a certain period. The public <strong>social</strong> welfare centre can thus provide work to persons entitledto <strong>social</strong> integration by acting as an employer itself or by looking for an employer or it can reducethe wage costs for employers by paying part of the wages for some forms of employment.A youngster is entitled to an integration income in 3 special situations:1. as from the moment of his application until the moment he actually becomes an employee;2. when he benefits from an individualised <strong>social</strong> integration project;3. when he cannot be employed for health or equity reasons.In these cases, the persons obviously also has to fulfil the legal conditions.The allowance and the maintenance of the integration income may be complemented by anindividualised <strong>social</strong> integration project, on request of the person concerned or the public<strong>social</strong> welfare centre. Depending on the needs of the person concerned, this project will befocused on professional mobilisation or <strong>social</strong> integration. When the public <strong>social</strong> welfare centre,for equity reasons, accepts that the youngster starts, resumes or continues a full-time study inview of increasing his chances for labour market integration, an individualised project for <strong>social</strong>integration with regard to the study has to be drawn up.74
