C. Serious illness of a child or palliative care for a child or the life partnerSince 1 January 2010, a self-employed person who interrupts his activity during at least 4consecutive weeks in order to care for his seriously ill child, can be exempt of paying contributionsfor one quarter and he can obtain the assimilation of this quarter for his pension.Also since 1 January 2010, a self-employed person who interrupts his activity during at least 4consecutive weeks in order to provide palliative care to his child or his life partner, can obtain alump-sum allowance of 1,967.58 EUR (amount on 1 July 2011). The allowance is paid out monthly,with three instalments. In this context, the self-employed persons can also be exempt of payingcontributions for one quarter and he can obtain the assimilation of this quarter for his pension.A self-employed person can consecutively make use of both these provisions for the same child,provided that the granting conditions are fulfilled each time.65
